Swim
What would you do differently?: Need to practice more open water swims and get a little better swimming out there. Need to work on sighting and drafting off of others. Transition 1
Comments: Transition felt a little slow. I had to sit down and put my socks and bike shoes on. I stood up and got my helmet and sunglasses on and I struggled a little bit getting my bike off of the rack but, finally got it off of there and started jogging to the mounting point. Hopped on and went. It would have been nice to have shoes with loops on the back so I could do the whole rubber band mounting thing but...I'll get there. :) What would you do differently?: Just plan a little bit better I guess. If I could get a little bit better at open water swimming I wouldn't be so disoriented coming out of the water...and then maybe the transition would be a little faster. Bike
What would you do differently?: Train more and get even stronger. Like I said, I would like to get some better bike shoes so I can rubber band start, and I think I still need to get a little bit better on hills. Overall I am happy with my performance. :) Transition 2
Comments: Overall it was a good transition. I totally spaced at the end and didn't even try and take my feet out of the shoes while I was still riding. Just slowed down and hopped off of the bike and started running in my bike shoes to the rack. Did pretty well at racking the bike...sat down and took the bike shoes off and put the running shoes on. Went fairly quickly but I think it could have gone a bit more quickly. What would you do differently?: Practice dismounting the bike more and practice the transition so that I can make it smoother. Run
Comments: I think that the big bowl of oatmeal that I ate that morning came back to haunt me at this point. The whole first mile of the run felt horrible. My stomach was killing me because of the bad nutrition I guess. Once I got past that first mile I started to feel a little better but I think I could have gone a whole lot fast if it had been a paved course. What would you do differently?: Better nutrition...not change up my breakfast routine on race day. Maybe some more hill training instead of doing all of my training on the track. Bu, overall i was happy with my pace. Post race
Warm down: Just finished up and walked over to the sidelines to wait for Faeron and Delores to finish up. I grabbed a free Red Bull from the Red Bull girls and then just chilled out. It was a short race so I didn't feel like I needed to really have a cool down or stretch out. What limited your ability to perform faster: Need more experience in open water swimming and more experience in trail running. Maybe a surgury on my knee to get rid of my knee pain...other than that, just more training. Event comments: This was a fun race for sure. I loved the fact that there weren't a ton of hills....well...there were hills but the hills were right at my ability level. It was a fairly small race, which I liked too, because it wasn't so crowded. Lots of drink stations on the run, which was nice but kind of unnecessary. I would definitely recommend this race and will probably do it again next year. :) Last updated: 2008-08-18 12:00 AM

Woke up at about 04:30 am because we had to get to the race site to late register. Not a freaking morning person at all so getting up that early was a little tough. LOL. Anywho....woke up, had a big bowl of oatmeal (maybe a bad idea) and a big cup of coffee. Got to the race site and ate a piece of peanut butter toast.
Got singed up and found my place in transition. Got all of my stuf set up and then just kind of leisurely got into the water to check out the temperature. Turned out to be really warm...which was awesome...so I didn't need to wear a wetsuit. I felt bad for the people who did wear thier wet suits because they had to have been sweating big time. Just chilled out until they did the national anthem and started the race....about 8-10 minutes late but, it's all good...there was plenty of triathlete eye candy to enjoy. ;P
