Swim
Comments: The front part of the course was fine, this was my first open water swim, so I had that challenge + there were a bunch of slower swimmers in the previous heat ~which clogged things up a bit. My only complaint is about the exit from the swim - the channel that all the swimmers had to exit from was too small and too congested, I lost over a minute waiting for those ahead of me walking out of the water thru the seaweed and muck. I was unable to swim in to the exit point. Would be better if we could have come out on a wider space like the beach. What would you do differently?: Relax a bit more, try to breathe easier and set up a smoother rhythm to my swim. Transition 1
Comments: The stairs were congested and slow - lots of people came out of the water at the same time... I took my time, in order to not slip on the wood, What would you do differently?: Be more agressive about getting out of the water ahead of a large group, jog up the stairs to my transition area Bike
Comments: The course was really lovely, until that last hill, what a bear. It just killed my legs. I wanted to get off the bike so badly but didn't - thank goodness What would you do differently?: I have just started cycling, so this was challanging for me, I have only done a few hill work outs, will def. start to do a lot more, I can see that my cardio has improved but there a room for a lot more + I want to get my cadence up, I see people passing me, pedaling at higher speeds with seemingly less effort - that would help out a lot Transition 2
Comments: This transition went a lot better, except for nearly sliding into race official when dismounting... shoes slipped on pavement - other than that, no problems and seemed smooth. Manage to down some water before exiting. will try to do a gel next time to give me a better boost on the way out of T2 What would you do differently?: not slide at dismount site, maybe unfasten shoes before getting off the bike Run
Comments: Wow - this was difficult after the last hill set on the bike... I have only recently started to run, so although my time was not great, I'm pretty happy that I made it. My legs were toast. What would you do differently?: I will start to train on some hills, I have been working on getting the distance down for the past few months and now need to step things up a bit Post race
Warm down: walk around to cool off, water, gatorade, fruit What limited your ability to perform faster: Need to eat more before the race, I used up all my energy by the end of the bike. Drank more fluids this time and I think that helped but even a bit more would be better Event comments: Need to train more - this is only my second race and it was more difficult than the first one I did in Richmond. But considering I have only 2 months of training under my belt, I'm pretty happy so far. I look forward to my next one in Dewey Beach. Last updated: 2008-08-19 12:00 AM

I was very nervous after previewing the course the day before... this was only my sencond tri - so unfortunately, I was unable to eat as much as I should have. I got up around 6 am - showered, had 1/2 a banana, 1/2 an apple, a few nibbles of a cliff bar, drank some water, packed car and headed out around 6:40 to the site. Set up Transition area and walked around a bit
Stretching, walking , it was a cool morning so wanted to stay warm in sweats...decided not to swim, thought I would get cold waiting for my heat to start
