Swim
Comments: Oh, man. After my first tri in June in which my swim was awful, I trained hard to make improvements here, and all for not. I was in the first wave and started in the rear. Some bad luck was involved. For about 10 strokes I fought to keep my cap on, then it shot off. I swam a little with it in my hand, then made my way to a kayak to latch on and pull the cap back on. At this point, I was far behind everyone (1rst wave). I slowly caught up to the rear, and at first bouy, I started to have trouble like my first tri. It was a struggle to get around it. After this my goggles were so fogged up I couldn't site and I got tired fast. I struggled the rest of the way, and I noticed two other colors of swim caps around me when I exited:( No wetsuits this day unless you don't want to place. What would you do differently?: I think I know my problem. I may train in OW, but I don't train in stressful situations (can't touch bottom and people around me). This causes me to panic and breathe faster, and puts me out of rythem. Next time I will start on the outside and towards the front so I can bolt out of the way, but won't have to pass people. I will also buy something to prevent my goggles from fogging because that really cost me. Transition 1
Comments: I was 19 overall in T1 which shocked me when I saw the result. Big improvement from my first time. What would you do differently?: Nothing, but I wouldn't fiddle with my Garmin and such. Im getting a cyclocomputer and using it instead. Bike
Comments: I live 15 minutes from the course, so I practiced on it twice. I passed a lot of people here, and was only passed by one person with a sexed-out bike and helmet. I was frustrated from my swim. During the last mile, my pedal sheared off of my crank, so that didn't help, but luckily it was all downhill so it could have been much, much worse. What would you do differently?: Train better...since my swimming sucks, I need to make up more time here. Transition 2
Comments: Did well here again to my surprise. Not sure why. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: The course goes back onto the bike course, and it's out and back. So this means that you have a wide shoulder on the road to share with runners on their way back, as well as bikers in the Olympic distance, plus cars in the lanes. Due to a previous tri workout where a friend pushed me to run faster, I really improved a lot here and passed a lot of people. I still thought I was way behind most folks in the race. What would you do differently?: Not worry about bonking and pick up the pace sooner. Spring the last .5 mile(easier said than done). Post race
Warm down: nothing What limited your ability to perform faster: Poor training and a lousy swim. Event comments: I think the NE tri is a great race for people who want fast times or are starting out. The town is nice, it draws a great, happy, healthy looking crowd, is organized well, and has awesome volunteers. I want to do this one again, especially if I get my stuff together for a swim. I would recommend this tri to anyone. Last updated: 2008-08-21 12:00 AM
