Age Group Rank = 2/3
Pre-race routine:

Into bed about 10:30; up around 6:30. Slept somewhat fitfully, but not terrible. Ate breakfast at the hotel: Cheerios with milk, fruit salad, yogurt smoothie, and coffee. Headed to the race site a little before 8. Checked in and set up transition and then tried to stay warm until the race start. Gel about 15 minutes before the race start.
Event warmup:

literally trying to stay warm
Run
  • 17m 36s
  • 2 miles
  • 08m 48s  min/mile
Comments:

took it pretty easy, saving it up for the bike and second run. Got a little warm but knew I'd cool down with the wind on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

maybe push it harder
Transition 1
  • 00m 50s
Comments:

It was my plan to wear my running shoes for everything so T1 only consisted of strapping on my helmet; it went well and fast

2/3 AG, 13/47F (tie)
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Bike
  • 37m 11s
  • 10 miles
  • 16.14 mile/hr
Comments:

took a mile or so get it together and then settled into the aerobars and started picking off riders. Being aero definitely helped with the wind.
What would you do differently?:

ride harder
Transition 2
  • 00m 34s
Comments:

took a little extra time to strip off my jacket and switch to a full water bottle

my official time seems fast; I doubt I was that quick.

2/3 AG, 11/47F
Run
  • 29m 5s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 23s  min/mile
Comments:

got a bit warm and pulled off my gloves and buff. My legs felt pretty bad and I had some problems holding pace on the hills. At one point there was a fork in the path with a sign that indicated straight but it wasn't clear which was the correct branch; I started down what was the wrong branch and had to double back.

Coming down the final stretch to the chute I saw that I could overtake the woman in front of me and poured it on across the finish. As soon as we finished I saw that she was in my age group. That was the difference between 2nd and 3rd!
What would you do differently?:

take the correct route and push it harder
Post race
Warm down:

walking, stretching, packing up TA and the car. Hung out for some food and the awards

What limited your ability to perform faster:

my running ability!

Event comments:

I thought the race info indicated that awards would go three deep but it turned out that they only gave an award for first in AG. I finally finish second but still miss out on hardware :(

Was not chip-timed so the splits are all a bit suspect. I think Run 1 was really slower and T1 faster; I think Bike was faster and T2 longer.

Good race. A fun way to finish the season.
