Swim
Comments: Felt relaxed during the entire swim portion. Felt myself make a couple of stokes in the wrong direction due to sun glare, but was able to coorect quickly. After rounding the last bouy, I saw the yellow flags and headed right towards them. Turns out they were the starting flags and I swam into the start/warmup area. Probably added an additional fifty yards. What would you do differently?: Swim to the right flags. Transition 1
Comments: Dropped my goggles as I ran towards my bika and had to go back and pick them up. Wetsuit got stuck on timer chip. Overall though, it probably helped because it made me slow down and lowered my heart rate. Seemed like a long run to the bike mount, which wasn't easy in bike shoes. What would you do differently?: Nothing Bike
Comments: Most frustrating part of the race. Legs felt good. Breathing felt good, but I could not seem to go any faster. I was passed by at least 65 people (probably a lot more) who passed me as though I was standing still. I tried to speed up but no luck. What would you do differently?: Bike tune-up Transition 2
What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: PR for me on a 5k. Felt really good on the finish and was able to get my heart rate down much faster than normal. Had difficulty breathing between mile one and the midway point. Couldn't take a full breath for some reason. Seemed to fix itself after the midpoint. What would you do differently?: Not carry an unopened 32 oz gatorade for the first 1/2 mile thinking I might need it later. Post race
Warm down: None What limited your ability to perform faster: I'm hoping it was bike mechanics, but in the end I'm guessing training. Event comments: Mixed feelings about the race. On the one hand I find myself comparing my triathlon races to my golf game. If one element is going well, another is not clicking. Then I think that maybe my body is beginning to learn (especially after a dismal Boulder Peak) how fast it can go at this point with still allowing for a halfway decent finish. If anyone had told me the day before the race that I'd average 19+ on the bike and then PR the run, I'd have been thrilled. That said, I guess I'm happy with my race, but disappointed that it's the last one of the year. Last updated: 2008-08-23 12:00 AM

Woke up at 5:00am, peanut butter on bread for breakfast, stopped for a Starbucks on the way to the race.
Heard that the reservoir temp was nice, so I jumped in about ten minutes prior to my start time to swim a few strokes and see how the rented wetsuit felt. Water felt warmer than I thought it would...until I got about thirty yards from the shore and it all of a sudden turned freezing and took my breath away. Would have been quite a shock if this had happened during the race.
