Pre-race routine:

Got there at 5:30 hung around then set up transition and got marked. Had a PB&J sandwich around 7. Didn't do a warm-up swim because the air was cold and I was in one of the last waves. Reviewed the swim course w/race officials.
Event warmup:

None
Swim
  • 37m 31s
  • 1408 yards
  • 02m 40s / 100 yards
Comments:

I was doing pretty well around the first two buoys as far as keeping a straight line, but then I started swimming all over the place. I was also moving incredibly slowly.
What would you do differently?:

Site more often and try to pick a better spot to start.
Transition 1
  • 04m 28s
Comments:

I felt really disoriented when I got out of the water but there was a nice long run to the transition are for my head to clear. I ate a banana in T1
Bike
  • 1h 30m 54s
  • 24.9 miles
  • 16.43 mile/hr
Comments:

I felt good on the bike and drank a lot. I could probably have pushed myself harder but when I am alone, which I was for the entire ride, I have no concept of what my pace is. I managed to eat a couple crackers and drank a lot.
What would you do differently?:

Tape my bike number down, it was rubbing against my leg the whole time. Eat earlier.
Transition 2
  • 01m 49s
Comments:

I had a gel and some water
Run
  • 53m 21s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 08m 36s  min/mile
Comments:

I started out at about an 8:30 pace but then slowed down because I didn't want to run out of energy and my calves were killing me. The calves loosened up around mile 3 and I picked up the pace a little. I had the energy at the end to sprint to the finish.
What would you do differently?:

I could probably have gone out a little slower and then gradually picked up the pace throughout. I had the energy to push myself more than I did.
Post race
Warm down:

Water and cold towels

What limited your ability to perform faster:

unsure of what I had left, bad gauge of pace and distance

Event comments:

The water stops every mile on the run course were wonderful, the bike course was pretty easy and I really enjoyed it. I wasn't a fan of the swim course, but I don't think I ever particularly enjoy the swim. The post race food was pretty good.
