Run
Comments: started out on the front - no one else seemed to want to toe the line but Steve. Lead for ~1/4 mile until Steve decided my low 6/mi pace was too slow. I asked him as he passed what his pace was for the day but he wouldn't tell me. turns out I had no chance to hang on as he went under 55min. I was left in 2nd and kept this place for the entire race. first mile in ~6:30. 3mi in 20min. 6mi in 42min (the 5th mile included a wrong turn that cost my ~40sec - thankfully I was still able to keep my 2nd place). The run on the backside of the damn took a lot out of me and I was starting to hurt badly! This was the 7th mile. the grade pitched up a bit and the road was very loose sand/dirt. I would have rather been running on singletrack. I thought I was getting caught here but the next chance I had to spot behind me I had a very good gap with <1mi to go. The last mile was aweful and the finish line couldn't come soon enough! I was spent! What would you do differently?: I wanted to go under an hr. I would have been a little over a minute off without my wrong turn. better pacing (much better) would have really helped. Post race
Warm down: ~20mile bike back home with Scott (uphill and against the wind.....) What limited your ability to perform faster: pacing hurt me. legs sore still from last weekend's relay Event comments: another predictable CMRA race. great value. nice course Last updated: 2008-08-25 12:00 AM
