Swim
Comments: Never felt like I had a well established stroke, constantly shifting attention to rotation, crawling easy and keeping ellbows high. Swallowed a lot of water and air causing my intestines to cramp during the running part. Nice result though, wish I felt like it while swimming :) What would you do differently?: Develop a well established stroke, gain confidence. Get that breathing right. Transition 1
Comments: Came out of the water with a high heart rate (168) and couldn't get it down while in transition. Was jogging at first to T1 (it's a 150m stretch from the water to T1), but decided to walk in stead to get the pulse down. Suit got stuck on the timing chip. Other leg went fine. Took enough time to make sure no dirt got into my shoes. What would you do differently?: Practice the transition up front. Bike
Comments: Legs fell very well, breathing was comfortable. Kept a very smooth cadence all the way through, while cornering on the safe side. Straight speed was about 31 k/hr. Didn't want to get my pulse higher than 167, as this is my (theoretical) lactate threshold, and I did want to finish the race in reasonable time. What would you do differently?: Can't thing of anything (yet) Transition 2
Comments: Took my time to get my feet in my shoes without any stones. Took time to lace up properly. What would you do differently?: Get the laces right for faster speed. Run
Comments: Had lots of intestinal cramps during the first 2 laps. Couldn't go into tempo zone, even if I would have wanted to. Didn't start out too fast, fell well into a good rythm. Tried to enjoy the scenery to forget my intestines. What would you do differently?: Don't have any idea yet. The training will have to take care of faster times, not the way I handled this particular run session. Post race
Warm down: Walking / talking with friends. Taking rehydratation, bananas and "peperkoek". Nothing with proteïnes in it seemed available ? What limited your ability to perform faster: Being a first year endurance athlete and my overal physicall condition. Event comments: Very friendly atmosphere, geared towards the recreational and those doing their first "real" distance. Lot's of great, smiling, volunteers to assist you in setting up transitions, responding patiently to any question you might have. This race is preceded by a fun triathlon for the absolute beginners, and followed by a team sprint triathlon. Last updated: 2008-08-25 12:00 AM
