Age Group Rank = 18/58
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:30, had a cup of coffee and a protein bar. Loaded up my stuff and off to the race.
Event warmup:

jogged a little bit, light stretching, walked the transition.
Swim
  • 13m 44s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 34s / 100 yards
Comments:

I didn't feel that great at warm up, so I decided to just go out easy. The swim went by very quickly. I passed quite a few people and ended up with some white caps from the first group.
Transition 1
  • 02m 5s
Comments:

21/2 minutes faster than last year during transition. I think they moved the transition mat up the beach this year. That would explain the longer swim and shorter transition.
What would you do differently?:

Just practice transitions more. I can improve alot in this area.
Bike
  • 33m 31s
  • 11 miles
  • 19.69 mile/hr
Transition 2
  • 01m 52s
Comments:

improved 20 sec from last year.
What would you do differently?:

Practice transitions
Run
  • 23m 55s
  • 3 miles
  • 07m 58s  min/mile
Comments:

I had to stop 2 times right out of transition because my right calf cramped badly. Not sure why this happened but I am glad it went away. I had to start the run pretty slow though to make sure the cramp was gone.

I really need to spend the next 3 months working on my running. I just broke in my orthotics, so I am hoping putting the time in running alot will help me improve.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe push harder on the run. I could have broken 1:15 if I had paid attention to my time.

More running. Base building, speed work.
Post race
Warm down:

got some water and orange slices. Watched some racers come in...packed up and went to get some breakfast.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Having just gotten my orthotics for a short leg, I am sure that I can improve the quality of my runs and be faster next year.

Event comments:

I improved 3:30 from last year, so I am very happy about that. I know I can improve my running and transitions along with biking and swimming. Overall I am happy with the result an am looking forward to a winter maintenance run focused program.
