Comments:

Fun swim down river. I thought I was the furthest swimmer from shore until I felt the guy behind me touching me feet. I took it as a compliment that he was drafting off me. Funny how I started to think about him as I swam. Easy to parallel shore but I had not clue where the finish was. Seemed like I was 1/2 way when I noticed the finish. Lots of energy left so I poured in on to the finish. Wish I could do it again. Should have been swam much harder. The distance is deceiving with the current in your favor. I thought my wetsuit worked great. Swim felt good.
What would you do differently?:

Swim harder all the way through. No split time. I was told 6th overall

Comments:

T1 in a different spot that t2 new thing for me. Everything went into a bag which race volunteers took to the finish. At the start of the race this flustered me but it was all fine. I've learned something new each time I do this.
What would you do differently?:

Practice getting my wetsuit off faster. Next time I am going to remember to get pumped to make transition faster and not sneak any rest.

Comments:

Awesome bike course! My flat tire messed the time part up but the trip through orchards and vineyards was great. Hills suck to climb but what a hoot to go down. My chain came off again once again.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure what can be done about flat tires. I took the bike to the LBS Wednesday and they adjusted it. I also was shifting just as they told me too so I am not sure what to do about the chain problem.
Transition 2

Comments:

Great race volunteers. They take your bike from you then hand you a bag with all your running gear and direct you to a chair to put on your shoes. Everything you take off goes into a bag they hold for you. It almost thought the race volunteer who helped me might put my socks and shoes on for me. That chair felt way too good.
What would you do differently?:

Get pumped for T2 time. Too easy for me to sneak a little rest.

Comments:

Great course along the Columbia river. As soon as as I started to run my quads hurt. Tried to look up into the sky and mentally go somewhere else. Running just isn't fun. Swimming is fun riding the bike is fun but running is torture. Should go Swim, bike, swim. By the end I was really tired. I did finish strong but I was wiped. However I did enjoy a wonderful endorphin high at the end
What would you do differently?:

Maybe I could use roller skates next time?
Post race
Warm down:

Chug 3 cans of free orange soda (not diet either)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Mechanical problems and not able to run hard enough.

Event comments:

The race volunteers were awesome. The kayak crew was the best. They wouldn't let you go too far astray before "herding" you on course. There was a step getting out of the river and a person on each side to take an arm to help you over that step. They obviously understood the disorientation many people have after the swim. Again so much fun.
