Swim
Comments: Plant life and sediment in water. Chaotic, with a good amount of jostling for position till past the second buoy, where people finally spread out a little bit. What would you do differently?: Get tinted goggles so that it would be easier to spot looking toward the sun coming into the finish. Transition 1
Comments: Did a good job of getting the top half of my wetsuit off (with watch in my teeth), but had a heckuva time getting it over my heels, especially with the chip strapped to my ankle. Also, the stone steps up from the lake were rather treacherous. What would you do differently?: Practice getting my wetsuit over my heels, maybe even with a chip strap on for practice. Bike
Comments: Did a good job of eating and drinking on the bike. Still was ready for it to be over at about mile 19. Was surprised by how fast I was going -- very fast course. What would you do differently?: Not eat so many Clif Blocks and practice eating Gu on the bike instead. Transition 2
Comments: Hamstrings very tight when I got off the bike. Was glad to have the chance to stop at the Porta-Potty before the run. What would you do differently?: Take the time to eat a Gu and drink some Gatorade in transition. Probably didn't have to make that pit stop in retrospect. Run
Comments: Stomach cramps (probably from too many Clif Blocks) made me start out a very conservative pace. Skipped the first water stop (at mile 0). Walked at the next three water stops so that I could drink my water. (Dumped water over my head at the last two.) Kept an even pace till mile 4 when I picked it up. Passed Scott and Susie on the run. Had Christine in my sights for the last mile-plus, but couldn't catch her. What would you do differently?: Not eat so many Clif Blocks on the bike. I probably could have run the first four miles faster if I hadn't had stomach cramps. Post race
Warm down: Drank the ice water handed out at the finish and put the ice-cold washcloth on the back of my neck. What limited your ability to perform faster: Stomach cramps! Event comments: Well organized, fast pace, great run and bike routes. The only downside is the lake, which was kind of gross and had annoying shallow spots. Last updated: 2008-08-26 12:00 AM

Got up at 4:30, drank 10 oz. water. Ate PB&J on Trader Joe's complete protein bread at 5:15 a.m. on drive down to Lakeville. Arrived just after 6:00, met team, set up transition area, got marked, applied sunscreen, made a couple visits to the Porta-Potty.
Quick swim.
