Event warmup:

10 minute swim in the rough surf.
Swim
  • 14m 32s
  • 875 yards
  • 01m 40s / 100 yards
Comments:

I could have pushed myself more on the swim. I felt unusually fresh coming out of the water. Initial pace was above average and I kind of died out towards the end.
What would you do differently?:

Improve my form. Get more time in the water.
Transition 1
  • 03m 59s
Bike
  • 53m 37s
  • 17 miles
  • 19.02 mile/hr
Comments:

Pushed my luck on a slick corner one too many times. The first time, I took it at full speed (20-21mph)slid 4-5 feet sideways and saved it. Wasn't as lucky the next time around....slowed to 16mph, slid 4-5 and continued sliding until i became very intimate with concrete.

My left hip took most of the impact and I ended up fracturing one of the smaller bones on my left wrist. I pulled myself to the side to assess the damage...left hand was a bloody mess...tri short held up well...bike was surprisingly spotless except for a slight dimple on the frame and scraped up shifters. Stood there for a while...still in shock...

After wallowing in self pity, I decided to get myself together and finish the race...started off really slow...would have been content nursing a 13mph pace until T2 but something inside me just said that self pity mode is over...time to salvage whatever i have left in the bike leg...no looking back after that!
What would you do differently?:

Not crash the bike on the home stretch. I lost approximately 3-5 minutes. Should have been in the 20mph club. Note to self, i will definitely break that barrier next season. I can't wait!
Transition 2
  • 02m 30s
Run
  • 46m 46s
  • 5 miles
  • 09m 21s  min/mile
Comments:

Run was not very comfortable. My wrist was beginning to swell...shooting pain was starting to originate from my wrist. Overall, it was a respectable run.
What would you do differently?:

Run faster!
Post race
Warm down:

A couple of hours in the ER....nice brunch by the beach to celebrate!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Swim was so so...bike was phenomenal until I crashed (based on my extrapolations...i should have finished in the top 50 sans crashing...oh well, better luck next time)...run...yeah, i suck at the run.

Event comments:

A lot of fun.
