Pre-race routine:

My goal is to make this RR short, sweet, and equally as entertaining as my others. I am sick of my long ones. Let's see if I succeed.
Up: 4:35ish (Thanks Bryn)
Dress: ugh. Can't wear these bike shorts. Look way too fat, they ride my ass, and they don't match my tank. Throw out every article of clothing in dresser to the floor looking for the "right" pair. ah ha!

Dunkin Donuts: What do you mean you don't open until 6 for my usual coffee stop?? Starbucks: Not open either. Damn.
Find an open gas station on road to Canandaigua. Thank you very much!
Event warmup:

Great parking spot. Easy packet pick-up. Easy body marking. FANTASTIC marker. Marks still there after 2 scrubbings. Set up a good spot in transition. Go back to car to retrieve Tyler's bike and COFFEE.
Ate banana and cereal bar along with coffee. Did a short run with Ridgie to try to get the "system" going.... 2 potty stops. One tampon change. (is that TMI?) It's great being a woman sometimes.
Stood around for forever until my wave went at 8:50ish. Freezing cold by that time.
In between all of this, got to hang with Dudley, Ken, Mike T, Rob, Bob, Mike M, Julie. That's the best part of the entire day I think. :)

So very cold. Never swam in water that cold before. Got off to a better start than I normally do when I'm better trained. Came to 1st buoy and got terribly disoriented. Very strange. Stopped to try to get my bearings, and almost started swimming down the same line I just came from. oops. Everything was great from there on. Swam until hands hit sand.

No socks. Can't compare times to previous races since this year is my 1st with cycle shoes.

Nothing. I'm not interested in running w/o socks.

Right off the bat I knew I was way under-trained. WAY under-trained. Even little rollers put me in serious pain. But my bike can kick booty on flats and down hills. I was psyched to see what my pace was until the last mile when my chain fell off. Grandma never threw her chain off during a race. What's up with my new one? Probably pissed that I haven't named her yet. I felt like I was doing well until then. I really fumbled getting it back on. Too much pressure and too little oxygen I think. Pushed it way too hard to try to catch up and blew my legs even worse for the run.
What would you do differently?:

Train. Put the chain back on in a more timely manner.

Once again, I prove that my strength lies in the running. (3rd in AG) But I certainly felt like crap most of the time. Decided to run with water bottle to try to cut back on T2 time. Bad idea. Figured I'd see Rob and kids on run so I could throw them the bottle. Nope. Nowhere. Ran with a 1/4 full bottle the entire time. Annoying. As usual, passing people, or the opportunity/possibility to pass people motivates me to plow ahead. This is a great race for that. Always lots of people around. 1/2 way through, finally caught up and passed the girl I was riding with on the bike when I lost the chain. That made me feel better. On the straightaway before the finish chute I finally threw the bottle on the other side of the blue fence so I could finish with more ease (if that was at all possible). Rob had a look of concern on his face when he came up to me. He said I looked pretty "bad" compared to other races. That I usually am able to smile at least a little bit. Not after this race.
What would you do differently?:

Train. Not run with a bottle.

Warm down:

Walked. I felt instantly nauseous after crossing the finish line and smelling the food. yuck. Realized later it was probably the fish doing me in. I just walked to try to get away from the smell.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Ha! I think we all know the answer to this question.
