Swim
Comments: After 4 waves were released for the swim, the RD stated that EMS had cancelled the swim due to the excessive waves. The wind was blowing something fierce causing some very choppy water. The RD said at the beginning that anyone who wanted, could skip the swim. I really did not want to swim in that mess, but I felt I had to for some ungodly reason. Now the decision had been made for me. Transition 1
Comments: After the flat changed, I rode the bike around the parking lot to make sure the gears were set. As I started the ride, which was up a slight hill, the gears would slip every time I tried to clip my left foot in causing my foot to slide of the pedal before it would clip. What was going on?? I looked down and saw my chain was in the small ring even though the shifter was set to the middle ring. Ok, slow down. Get a good clip, get the gears right and go. Bike
Comments: The ride was tough. The winds were really blowing and for the first half of the ride, I was either fighting to keep the bike from being blown over sideways or facing a strong headwind. 14.8 was a decent pace for me considering the conditions, but people were passing me like I was standing still. What does it take to ride like that? Transition 2
Comments: My T times are a little slow, but this did not make much of a difference in my placing. Run
Comments: I'm not a fast runner, but I was not sure how well I would run after such a hard ride. I was a little off pace, but I think I gave it everything. I walked through most of the drink stations and up some hills and sometimes just because. I kept pace with a nice man who could run faster than me but walked much more. We passed each other quite often but pretty much stayed together. A girl in TNT colors passed and I used her for pacing for a bit, but when the pavement got rough, she pulled away. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: Old age and years of inactivity. Event comments: Team Magic always puts on a great race. They got dealt a bad hand today with the weather, but they made the best with what they had. I am kind of disappointed that I didn't have the opportunity to complete my first full Olympic race, but I am more confident that I can so I'm in for the next one. Last updated: 2008-08-27 12:00 AM

I didn't sleep well. The power went off about 3 times last night. I slept fitfully from 2:00 to 4:00. Got up, ate a bagel and finished packing my bag. Hit the road by 5:00.
I arrived about 5:45 with the plan to get my bike out and air the tires before the transition area opened at 6:00. When I got my bike out, the rear tire was flat. What is going on with that? That makes 3 in the past month on that same wheel. Had to find someone who had a repair stand set up to help me. Thank you ACME Multisport for fixing my flat by the glow of your truck's headlights.
None, other than walking aroung wringing my hands worrying about swimming in the rough water.
