![]() Swim
Comments: This was my first OWS and I thought it went well. I tried not to overdo it as I have wasted myself on the swim legs during my two previous triathlons. I am not sure I was swimming perfectly straight but I don't recall ever having to switch direction. Stayed to the inside of the pack for the most part. What would you do differently?: I stopped at each buoy because there were other folks there and I was afraid of running into them. I had to swim around people a lot. I think I could sight slower swimmers and swim around them better. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: The usual sorry ass transition for me. Last triathlon I tried a running start and one of my shoes popped off. This time I just put my cycling shoes on and slowly jogged to the mounting area. My head was still swimming when I got out and as I bent over to put on shoes and socks I almost fell over I was so dizzy. This passed after about 5 secs. What would you do differently?: Practice. ![]() Bike
Comments: My back and shoulders were rather tired after swim and it was hard to stay in aero position. I was slow going up hills compared to other folks. By and large I was mostly just passed by the cervelo crowd. I tried to save a little for the run. What would you do differently?: I need to do more core strength training to race faster. A nicer bike would help too. I think I could have gone a little harder but that might have worsened my run. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: I actually did ok with this transition I thought What would you do differently?: run a little harder ![]() Run
Comments: I was just trying to survive at first as my legs would not switch over. After rounding the turn to come back I started picking up steam and must have passed a dozen runners, some of whom had passed me earlier. I had stomach cramps the whole way, which is unusual for me. What would you do differently?: maybe an electrolyte tab on the bike. I don't know why I cramped so bad. I still need to get used to running after cycling. ![]() Post race
Warm down: walked around a bit, came close to jumping back in the lake What limited your ability to perform faster: training and the decision not to use steroids this year Event comments: loved the site and the weather was perfect. Food was ok. Plenty of drinks. Very well run event. Last updated: 2008-08-30 12:00 AM

Woke up at 4AM because I just don't sleep well despite 3 or so "prerace" beers the night before. Ate cereal, banana, coffee.
