Tri On the Run
90F / 32C
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 36m 20s
Overall Rank = 114/179
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 19/27
Pre-race routine:

Breakfast early and hour drive to event.
Event warmup:

Got stopped for speeding in Freeport 1 mile from event (nice trap on the downside of the hill) so no warmup. Not a good start to my first tri.
Swim
  • 9h 13m 2s
  • 500 yards
  • 1h 50m 37s / 100 yards
Comments:

First time event I think swim went well. Was alittle surprised to see everyone else hanging back as I hit backstretch. Despite one zig-zag swimmer in front of me until I passed him there were no traffic issues.
What would you do differently?:

I saved to much energy here not knowing what to expect for rest of race. I actually did a good 20% doing breaststroke while in early traffic. I know
Transition 1
  • 03m 7s
Comments:

I sucked at my first trans. I was in no hurry and didn't realize how much time I took until I looked at results afterwards.
What would you do differently?:

Prep time before race was limited due to late arrival and that hurt me here. I had to go thru my bag to get all my gear out as I was trans.
Bike
  • 52m 44s
  • 15 miles
  • 17.07 mile/hr
Comments:

This is where I had issues that were unanticipated. I have only been on the bike once this year and this came back to hurt me. Ran first half of bike at good pace of 19+ but suffered last 1/3rd and brought pace way down.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe prepare my body a little better for the bike.
Transition 2
  • 01m 55s
Comments:

Slow again at transition but not as bad as T1. It is a learnign process and I will get it down at some point. Did almost eat it at top of hill getting off the bike. Someone siddled me right as I was dismounting.
What would you do differently?:

Not to much, just try to improve my bike shoes to running shoes change. Would help to have them outside my bag.
Run
  • 29m 33s
  • 3 miles
  • 09m 51s  min/mile
Comments:

I was actually surprised at my pace here. Haven't run outdoors this far in over 15 years. Walked a total of 6 minutes to relive stiches due to to much water and also trying to avoid the oncoming cramp.
What would you do differently?:

Running will be my downfall in each subsequent event so if I can push my time to a 26 then I would be very satisfied. That would include no walking to put me on pace.
Post race
Warm down:

Walk and jog for 10 minutes.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Out of shape, first tri event ever.

Event comments:

Great race and a nice starter for me.
