Swim
Comments: I was in no way prepared for the carnage of the swim. I wanted to quit about 100 yard into the race. I took a terrible beating which seemed to continue for half the race. I did not have prescription goggles and my vision is very poor so I could not sight very well at all. Lost track of direction a couple times but managed to stay on course for the most part. What would you do differently?: I think I understand the swim better now. Next time I will try to stay out of the main swim lane on the way to the first marker. Also will try to invest in a good pair of prescription goggles if possible. Transition 1
Comments: Really had a tough time getting out of the suit. Socks were a pain to get on, but went OK. Because of the no cartliage in right knee took time to put on bandage & medication patch which took time. What would you do differently?: Practice more getting out of the suit and/or get a different suit that might pull off easier. Also might forget about the bandage and medication patch - not sure it does much to help anyway. Think about not wearing socks - might have to get new bike shoes. Bike
Comments: Transition to bike was not too bad. Recovered well from the swim and got into a decent pace within the first half mile. I have ridden this course a few time as practice and this was my fastest time, however I still think that my hill performance really needs improvement. I had a max downhill speed of 39.5 mph which was pretty fun except for seeing the results of a bad crash just beyond that. What would you do differently?: Need to do more hill repeats or just build some more leg strength for the hills. Transition 2
Comments: Seemed like an orderly transition to me, but the time was slow. Took longer than I thought it should to get ogr of the bike shoes. Had some trouble getting the number belt on. Run out was slow. What would you do differently?: Perhaps loosen shoes on the way into the dismount area. Maybe get different bike shoes since these have three velcro straps each and could not pull them all at once. Run out was very slow - could practice some bike/run bricks for next time. Run
Comments: The run was always going to be my weakspot. I have no cartilage in the right knee and rub bone on bone all the time. Because of that I can not train much for the run and need to keep a very slow pace. I could only run a total of 11 miles in all of 2008 in preparation for this 3.1 mile run. My goal was to finish by running the complete distance which I did. What would you do differently?: I don't think that there is much more that I can do in the run phase. I could try to practice some bick run bricks to get me off to a little better start in the run. Post race
Warm down: Not much - stretched and was very thankful for being able to complete my first triathlon. Watched and waited with friends and family before heading out. What limited your ability to perform faster: I think I could do much better in transition. I need to work on hill performance. My knee is really the major limiting factor for my performance this year. Event comments: This was a fantastic experience for me. A great race to do for my first one! I would like to do this race again. Last updated: 2008-09-01 12:00 AM

This is my first ever Tri-athlon so I got little to no sleep it seemed. Got up at 5:15, ate a bagel, yogurt and a banana along with some Gatorade for early hyrdation. Arrived at about 6:45 after about an hour drive. It was pouring when we arrived so and waited in the car for a while longer before heading to the start.
Not much to speak of. Stretching a bit and just trying to keep mental focus. Trying to absorb the whole thing because this is my first tri. It all seemed so hectic. I was not thinking all to clearly in preparation because it was all so new to me.
