Swim
Comments: This was a very good swim for me. I managed to relax during the churn of the initial start, then outrace the bulk of my starting wave. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I was coming out of the water with mostly members of the previous wave around me. What would you do differently?: Nothing really - I feel that my swim hasn't been strong this year, but this was better than I had expected. Transition 1
Comments: T1 went pretty well for the most part. The only hitches were getting the wetsuit stuck around my timing chip on the left ankle and getting stuck behind athletes leaving the congested transition from previous waves. This negated the advantage of having the shoes on the bike. Once on the bike, I had a little bit of trouble getting into my new shoes. Need more practice. Overall, I had a pretty fast transition. Bike
Comments: I basically lost a month of training leading up to the race due to being sick and out of town for my brother's funeral. My riding has not been consitent lately, so I feel good about this ride. I kept the first lap pace pretty comfortable and gave it all I had on the second lap. What would you do differently?: I probably would have pushed a little bit harder on the first lap. I was under 20mph coming out of it. Transition 2
Comments: This was not a bad transition. It was faster than all but 3-4 people ahead of me. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: This was a tough run. It was very hot outside, and I was feeling it. I was also feeling the lack of training. I pushed myself as hard as I could, to the point of nearly vomiting after sprinting past a few people at the finish line. While I feel that I could/should be 2-3 mins faster on the run, I feel good about this run based on my recent training. What would you do differently?: 1. Train in the heat more often. 2. Do more intervals. Post race
Warm down: I pretty much collapsed at the finish line. Once I got up, I sat in the shade for a while, cooling off. What limited your ability to perform faster: Heat, lack of hard training lately. Overall though, I felt very good about my mental and physical performance in this race. There wasn't a lot I could have done better on race day. Event comments: This is a well organized, top notch event. Last updated: 2008-09-03 12:00 AM

I got to the race nice and early. I had plenty of time to set up transition and not stress.
We were booted from transition 45 mins prior to race, so I was unable to use my shoes for warmup. I did a ~.5 mile warmup jog barefoot on the race course.
