Pre-race routine:

Got up at 3:30am, ate cereal and had some water. Left at 4am, got to the transistion area at 5:15am after standing in a log registration line. Found a good spot next to a very nice lady and set up my area.
Event warmup:

Took a little jog to the bathroom and had a few gulps of water. Put a thermal long sleeve on and headed over to the beach.

  • 820 yards
  • 01m 02s / 100 yards
Comments:

A few bumps but otherwise alright. I think I'll be asking for a wetsuit for Christmas, it'll make the swim a lot faster for me.
Transition 1
  • 02m 47s
Comments:

I don't have much to get out of/into. I have a mountain bike still so I just slipped on my tennis shoes and got my helmet on.

Comments:

Now this was my last race with my mountain bike. I am waiting for my new tri bike to come in so I did the best I could with my bike. It was a BEAUTIFUL ride around the country roads, I really enjoyed it. The end of the course was more difficult as there were a lot more hills.
What would you do differently?:

I can't wait for my new bike! It should make riding a little easier :)
Transition 2
  • 01m 45s
Comments:

Went well, helmet off and ran right out.
What would you do differently?:

Run
  • 25m 18s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 10s  min/mile
Comments:

My goal was not to walk and I ran the whole time, this was my best segment of the race. I paced well and passed a lot of people. It was really tough and makes me want to train on hills a lot more than I do.
What would you do differently?:

Do those hills!
Post race
Warm down:

Grabbed some water and walked to my trans. area. Cleaned up and loaded my car. Went back to the race area to get some food (long line) and walk around. Left after about an hour.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

This tri was a last minute decision and I really hadn't trained on the bike as much as I needed. Riding a mountain bike on this course was definitely a set back. After my new bike comes I'll definetly be taking some long rides. Overall, I did well and can't wait for the next!

Event comments:

The race could have been a little more organized and the swim course needed to be explained much better than it was. The registration and packet pick-up should have more workers as it took sometime to get everything. Otherwise it was well done.

Course: It was a very short course, about .3 miles. There was a lot of confusion on where to swim for the sprint course and what bouys to follow. Needless to say there were a lot of people cutting corners due to the confusion. Not much of a difference though on such a short swim.
