Pre-race routine:

Get organized and let nerves calm down. Sat and talked with family
Event warmup:

None. Too nervous to do anything.
Swim
  • 25m 25s
  • 805 meters
  • 03m 10s / 100 meters
Comments:

UGH! I wasnt prepared for this and it showed. I spent way to much time paddling or backstroking. When I did swim I couldnt stay on course, kept swimming to side, which just stressed me out. I was so glad to hit the beach.
What would you do differently?:

Train, Train, and Train. I now know that swimming once a week, for someone who just learned to swim recently just wont cut it. I need to spend 4-5 a week in the pool and at least 2 couple more open water swims before the next tri
Transition 1
  • 03m 23s
Comments:

I was pleased with my first T1. Went in, took the extra 30sec to put on socks and dry feet, swig of warm Gatorade, grabbed a bottle and was off
What would you do differently?:

Practice and better set up Transition area.
Bike
  • 1h 04m
  • 17.2 miles
  • 16.12 mile/hr
Comments:

I actually felt pretty good here. I had the same horrible slow start and bad opening hills, but once we got to Neva I passed a bunch of people. lost steam on the diagonal, but made it back. Decided to pull feet out of shoes on the last downhill into the rez instead of hammering it, and it was a great decision. Flying dismount, legs felt better than my bricks.
What would you do differently?:

More time in the saddle, plain and simple. My nutrition was perfect, I was happy with T1 and dismount, just need to ride more so I dont roll at 11 mph in the first half.
Transition 2
  • 02m 41s
Comments:

It went exactly as I hoped, until my bike fell over in the rack. That took an extra minute to get sorted, grabbed a drink and hit the run.
Run
  • 38m 8s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 12m 18s  min/mile
Comments:

I was grenading it until someone (don't remember her #) told me to tag along with her, and she was going 10min/mile. I had walked until then and I got her at 18 min. So she pulled me the whole way, wouldn't let me walk when I wanted, told me water strategy and got me to run it over half the way. That was the longest Ive gone without walking and my HR went high, but stabilized and came back down. I would have ended up walking most of it had not been for her.
What would you do differently?:

Train, period. Just like everything else, I need to stop finding excuses to not run. This still ended up being only 15sec more than my 5K PR.
Post race
Warm down:

Laying on grass

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not training enough, being lazy

Event comments:

I cant wait for Rattlesnake in August. Now I know my weakness, and Im going to go ball to the wall for 2 months.
