Run
Comments: I ran really, really well. These races always bring out the best trail runners anywhere. I came in 5th place overall today. I was very happy with my run and my finish! Of note, I also came in 5th in my age group. The 5 fastest runners were all over 40... how about that? What would you do differently?: Nada, this was a great and hard effort on tired legs. It served its purpose Post race
Warm down: Hung out and watched the awards ceremony What limited your ability to perform faster: Maybe my tired legs... but Bernie didn't use his big previous day as an excuse and neither am I. Event comments: Awesome day... beautiful weather, great event and great people. Bernie Boettcher beat me but I felt like I have closed the gap on him this year. I also got beat by a truly legendary runner/athlete, Mike Kloser (www.mikekloser.com), but by less than 2 minutes... so I am please with my effort. Last updated: 2008-09-07 12:00 AM

I have been running on Empty. Two nites ago I worked late at the bar, went home, slept for two hours and drove to Denver. Ran 17 miles, biked 31 and then bricked on 3.5 miles. Drove back to Vail and worked in the bar until 3am... Woke up and debated blowing the race off. Instead I got myself together and went to the start at Gold Peak.
Jogged from the bathroom to the start of the race... It was Bernie Boettcher's 46th birthday today. Yesterday, he placed 2nd at the Imogene 17 mile (with a brutal climb) and today he placed 2nd again. He is sick. He makes me look like a punk. Bernie has been my running hero since I started racing about 5 years ago.
