Swim
Comments: The swim is definetly not my strong point. The overall draft really helps. Never felt like I was really working. Got hit and kicked a bunch. Really hard to get a rhythem. Did a good job siting and cut the corners real close. Transition 1
Bike
Comments: West wind picked up throughout the day. Some of the downhills were pretty scarey with the deep HED 3 wheels. Tried to keep my heart rate low. HR stayed in low 140's for the first hour. After that I kept it in high 130's. Nice tail wind to push us back to Madison. Played the bike very conservative. Transition 2
Run
Comments: First 13 miles went well. I may have started out to fast. It was hard to pace myself. I drank a coke and water at just about every aid station. Seemed to go ok. Then I ran into stomach issues. Had to walk more in order to not puke. This only made things worse because my body started to shut down. It became increasingly harder to start running again. Kept up with the coke and water, but it seemed like every time I ate I got sick. I switched to chicken broth which settled my stomach. The walking was the real problem. It is so hard to start running again. People kept telling me that I looked good and that I was doing great but I kept thinking, "why are these people lying to me? I look like crap and I'm walking." What would you do differently?: More run training. Run longer after biking. Run longer more. Train my body to do run 9 min. miles for 2.5 hours and feel like I ran 9min. miles for 1 hr. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: Strength and GI issues Event comments: There are a ton of logistics that go into IM. You build up to this day and anything can go wrong. Any little thing can throw your race off. Last updated: 2008-09-09 12:00 AM
