Swim
Comments: Loved the 50m pool and not having to count/lose count of how many friggin times I touched a wall to get all 300 in. That was greatness. Heeded advise from a few to take it nice and easy for 100, and pick it up every 100. Deep end was kinda interesting to swim in as you dont get to do that at the FISD NAT. Got pretty tired last 100m and broke my breathing routine in order to all out sprint it in. I think I can improve this time prety easily with some obvious practice. But I put in 6:45 for my time before the race, and did it a hair faster than that. Passed 2 people and never got passed in the pool. What would you do differently?: Hold my stroke and breathing the entire time and not try and change that form at the last lap. I think that probably slowed me down a few seconds. More practice and swim sessions to work on longer distances so I can go faster in a sprint. Transition 1
Comments: Didnt ever practice this part. So didnt have a goal but to go fast. Shoes took a bit of time with the wet feet, so had to dry them a bit. What would you do differently?: Go faster in getting my bike shoes on. Bike
Comments: Clipped in fairly easy and started drinking since I was pretty dehydrated from the swim. Had two bottles on board one was Tiger gatorade and other was water with a bit of gatorade mixed into it. Started garmin a bit late, and HR was sky high at about 175, but it dropped as soon as I got 3 miles in or so. Started passing people pretty soon into the ride, and got passed a few times by folks on their second loop that started sooner than me. Pushed it too hard in the first loop and had very little gas coming back in. Chased some 44 year old woman with a supergirl outfit on, she was on her second loop and had a spill on her first loop. Did a little back and forth with her and she peeled off as I had to go for loop 2. Loop 2 i really pushed it downhill but struggled a bit with the backside finishing hill. Got out of my shoes about 200 yds away from the dismount area, hopped off and was off to rack the bike. Had 1 gu, and all the Gatorade in one bottle. What would you do differently?: Ride more. Only logged about 40 miles of ride time in September and October. Just not enough saddle time. Didnt start my Garmin till about 1 mile in. Totally forgot to start it. Transition 2
Comments: Dismount felt quick and no falls there. Racked bike easily. Took Garmin off the bike and put it on my wrist. Shoes went on easy, no socks per Pope recomendation, race belt went on well. Started out of the Transistion area screwing with my Garmin. Pretty slow run start as the Garmin was fargin up, but got it right about 300 yds into the run. What would you do differently?: Figure my garmin out, go faster. Run
Comments: After I got the Garmin working, i noticed I was going at about 7:15 per mile and backed it down. Sure didnt feel that fast, but I knew I couldnt hold that pace for 3 miles..no way. Backed down to a 9 per mile pace and picked it up every mile till the last 400 meters or so. Paced off some 22 year old dude for most of the way and as he went I went. Kept playing games in my mind that I was going to catch him at the end. Saw Fitty, Bruce and Spruce on the run, that was cool as I didnt see anyone the entire race till then I knew. Stomach was a bit sickly as I think i might have drank too much during the ride. Caught the 22 year old dude at the end and passed him towards the finish. Saw the Hogans, Buehler, Bruce and Fitty and they cheered me in, that was really cool! What would you do differently?: Well run faster for starters...been running too long to be slow as I am. But considering my best 5k is 7.59 avg, doing this one after a bike and a swim was pretty good for me. More tempo runs and get into the track thing with the crew that is doing that. Post race
Warm down: Hung out with the crew, snapped some photos and waited for the results to be posted. Got some picks with "the King" which was greatness. Had a few more beverages and a pancake and donut. Great being around everyone at the end but glad it was over. What limited your ability to perform faster: Experience mainly. Now I know what to work on for the next one. Not enough bike time prior to the race. Need to train more on that part, as I focused mainly on getting up to speed on the swim. Event comments: Overall, great race. Same track for the St. Patty one in March of next year. That will probably be my next Tri. Thanks to all the crew of peeps for the support and training tips etc. Great job by The Hogans, Bobby, Fitty, Bruce and Spruce!!! Last updated: 2008-09-10 12:00 AM

Woke up at 4:45am after not sleeping much the night before, probably 5 hours total. Had a toasted peanut butter sandwich and some fruit. 1 Tiger gatorade. All my stuff was packed the night before. Mbrucedogs picked me up at 5:30am and we were off to Keller.
None really, just got my body marked up and went to my rack and got a spot second from the end and started setting up my gear. Had Fitty and Bruce take a look at it and tell me if it looked right. Got the approval and headed to get my chip. Got chip and finished putting my manitard on and went into the pool to relax. I thought about jumping in and checking the water out, but stuck to my no warmup before swim plan I found good for me with my last 3 swim workouts. Stood around in line for a while and smalltalked with the 2 guys in front of me.
