Swim
Comments: 1 minute slower than last year Transition 1
Comments: Just hit in the face once, enjoyed floating on my back waiting for the start, looked around and about 10 others started back floating after I did. Lost my goggles leaving the water. Bike
Comments: 45 minutes slower than last year, due to the heat. Tried to conserve body hydration. Saw many with heat problems. Great support from the BT crew. Thanks Craig! What would you do differently?: Not let the guy on a comfort bike with knobby tires pass me! Transition 2
Run
Comments: 1st 5 miles O.K. easy pace around 9:50, started cramping in legs at mile 6, did walk run till mile 9, could no longer run without cramps, tried electrolytes and lots of ice and gatorade, and finally decided to pull the plug at the 13.1 mark. Hard choice but ended up getting a IV at ER later after I fainted during dinner. Quitting when I did was a good choice. What would you do differently?: Get my weather control computer working so I could race in 65*F sunshine with no wind! Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: Heat Event comments: I knew I would have a problem finishing this event when the weather forcast called for temps in the 80's with a heat index of 90 something. Tried to conserve by biking slow but it didn't help. The day started off bad when I couldn't find my HR monitor. and for those who wished for warmer weather when the forcast was for 65* and light rain. May your winter be filled with 8 ft. snow drifts and sub zero temperatures from October through May! Just kidding! Last updated: 2008-09-10 12:00 AM
