Pre-race routine:

Drove up the morning of. Got up at 3:45, on the road by 4:05, stopped at the ATM, and made it to the park entrance by 5:48. A very easy drive, and I need to remind myself here, that it very much worth it. Drank a boost on the drive, listented to some live hurricane coverage on Sirius Fox news and CNN. Then some techno as I got a little closer. Always a good jump start.
Event warmup:

Swim. 2 out and backs. Helped me warm up, but didn't help my swim. Heh.
Swim
  • 30m 21s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 51s / 100 yards
Comments:

My swim is below acceptable standards right now, so I just really wanted to get through it. I did that. The lake was completely enshrouded in fog. Had to navigate 100% by following the swimmers in front of me. That took me off course slighty, about 4 different times. I had to stop and get my bearing about that many times as well. It was bizzare, but cool too. Aside from that, the lake was very low. About 25 yards of exposed beach that was not there in 06.
What would you do differently?:

Today, not much. Overall, train more. Take a masters class.
Transition 1
  • 01m 46s
Comments:

Run to transition was up a fairly deep sandy beach, and a bit of a run to my spot. Had a good T1 though. No issues. Was in and out pretty quick.

Bike
  • 1h 16m 51s
  • 26.1 miles
  • 20.38 mile/hr
Comments:

The results, average MPH, are wrong. I hope they correct that. I'm not going to change the stated milage, but I am going to take BT's calc of MPH. In the end, it doesn't matter much, cause we all have the same calculations. I just know I had a stronger bike than 19.5

I had a good strong bike. Comparing myself to the rest of my age group, the first place bike time was only 7 minutes faster. I am happy with that. I never once felt fatigued, and did the best job hydrating that I have done all year. I passed many and was passed maybe 4 times. Due to the time trial start, that's not as impressive of a measurment, but from a psychological one, it's perfect. ;)
What would you do differently?:

I lost my bike computer in the first few miles. It's gone for good. I really didn't need it, but I would like to see what my bike computer had for distance and overall MPH. This was my strongest bike since St. Anthony's, on a difficult course.
Transition 2
  • 01m 4s
Comments:

Quick, efficient. No socks. The only reason this is over 1 minute is that I had to re-attach my ankle (chip) strap. It was all askew. Thought I was going to lose it on the bike a few different times. Too much sand in it was the culprit.

Run
  • 46m 41s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 07m 31s  min/mile
Comments:

Strong run. Course changes make this course quite a bit more difficult than in years past. I didn't do 2007, so I don't know if it was new last year or not. The difficulty now comes in the last 1.2 miles, with 2 very noteable hills, and some other smaller ones in there as well.

I was not passed once on the run. That's a nice feeling. I was able to run a friend down, who started the swim about 5 minutes before me.. saw him out on the run as I was coming in on the bike. Because of the out and backs on this course, you have several opportunities to see others on the course, multiple times. I ended up catching him at mile 4, then setteling in for a half mile or so, then ran by for good. At the end of the run he says.. "I just did a 21 mile long run last sunday, that's why you caught me".. I felt bad when I had to tell him that I did 22. Not too bad though. ;) He's a strong athlete.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Had fun on this run. Not sure what I could do differently. I could be faster maybe.. if I trained for this specific distance, but I am in the middle of marathon training.
Post race
Warm down:

Drank water, welcomed a bunch of racers in. Did a lot of talking with others.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing. This was the race I wanted going into Chicago. Nothing that will risk that race in any way.

Event comments:

The usual high quality GA Multisports event. Tugaloo is a favorite of mine. Hard course, but a great test. This is my season ender :( I feel that after an overall below average Triathlon season, that I am ending on a high note. Can't ask for much more than that.
