Pre-race routine:

Up at 6; ride to Metro
Event warmup:

Pretty long walk from Metro to start line.. had to do a little pre-race running to make it to my chute on time.

Comments:

Started out feeling pretty strong, though the first 2 miles were slow because of the crowds.

Settled into a decent pace after that- mostly in the 8:00-8:10 range. I was feeling great until about mile 17, then things started going steadily downhill. The 3:35 goal slowly deteriorated, 5 minutes at a time.

At a couple of points in the last 6 miles, I cramped up and had to walk for a minute or so.. pretty disappointing. I bounced back in the last mile or so to come in under 3:50, and break my PR by about 20 minutes, but I had really hoped to do much better.
What would you do differently?:

Probably should have gotten a few more long runs under my belt, though I did have an 18 and 20-miler in the bank.

Also probably should have held back just a little more during the first half of the race.

Warm down:

Walked a long way back to the car.

Event comments:

Awesome race- this was my third time.. the Marines are terrific and really make this a special event.

It did seem like the aid stations were pretty far apart at some points- would have been nice to have just a couple more on the course.
