Pre-race routine:

Had breakfast at around 6am. Got to race site at about 7:15 am. Set up transition area and used bathroom.

I'm new to the whole bike clipping thing and am not comfortable running in my cleats so I think I did the best I could, given that I am new at this.

It was really friggin hot out there. This run was brutal. I don't know I ran so slow from overworking myself on the bike or if it was the heat or both but my run was extremely challenging. I felt like I was going o throw up or pass out a few times. I got through it but had to stop and walk for a few seconds about four times to get a drink of water.
What would you do differently?:

I don't know... maybe do longer bricks next time.

Warm down:

cooled down in the ocean about twenty minutes after finish.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I think lack of bike practice. Heat, fatigue. Not enough sleep the night before.

Event comments:

This was definitely a good time. I'm for sure down for another Sandman.

Ocean swim. Water was very tame and cool. comfortable swimming. Rectangular shaped race route. 50 meters out, 900 down, 50 back in. Beach start and finish. It was pretty dense at first, especially when turning the first buoy.
