Comments: Timing chip nearly got knocked off, had to stop at a wall in order to resecure it, lost 30-45 seconds. Between passing others or having other pass me it was tough to find a rhythm. What would you do differently?: Should have tried to draft more, I think I could have pushed the pace a little as well. Transition 1
Comments: Horrible transition, thought I was being smart bringing a long sleeve shirt to area outside the pool, took me too long to put it on and in the process I dropped my transition wrist tag and was required to back track over 50 meters to find it. What would you do differently?: Do as suggested and wear the stupid bracelet in the pool, skip the long sleeve next time or at least practice putting it on wet! Bike
Comments: This course was a lot hillier than my first tri experience, it was significantly more painful, but I was pleased overall with the result considering my pace was better than the flatter course at Deer Creek. My chain came off once and I lost about 1:00 putting it back on. What would you do differently?: More hill workouts in the future, have the bike looked at, I always seem to have trouble getting from my small front ring to either the outside or middle ring. Transition 2
Comments: Still pretty slow in this transition area in comparison to others, my calf nearly cramped as I got off the bike, similar to last race. Need to get some sort of speed laces, it is a small amount of time, but it adds up. Also had to strip off long sleeve shirt and go to short sleeve for run. What would you do differently?: Ditch the long sleeve, move with a bigger sense of purpose. Run
Comments: The course was longer and had hills in comparison to Deer Creek, still managed a faster pace than the last race which pleased me. It was a very painful run, lower left back hurt much like last time, in addition my hips felt tight if that makes sense. Based on the incident in transition with my calf nearly cramping, I was worried about cramps but it didn't seem to be a problem. What would you do differently?: Work the hills better, both down and uphill. I've had hills in some of my workouts, but not used to doing them after being exhausted...probably need to do some bricks that involve hills. Post race
Warm down: Relatively short walk and water. What limited your ability to perform faster: Conditioning was the primary factor, this course is longer than the average sprint course but shorter than an Olympic length. My training has been enough to get me by in a Sprint, but I haven't put in the necessary mileage for this distance. All things considering, I'm not complaining, just my body is! Event comments: Despite everything I was quite happy with this race overall. I wouldn't mind doing it again next year. At least I got first place in people from Hamilton, OH :P Last updated: 2008-09-16 12:00 AM
