Swim
Comments: Excellent swim course! The entire course was never in water over your head so it would be great for those who are leery of doing an open water swim in deep water. Very nice sandy bottom and clean water, i enjoyed this swim. I swam a personal best so I guess I have to be satisfied, even with a goggle issue What would you do differently?: My new goggles which I had trained with flooded 3 times on me, so I guess I would try to remedy that. Not sure why, I never really had an issue swim training with them. Transition 1
Comments: Was not the T1 i was looking for as my suit didn't come off as quick as i felt it should have, especially with all the Body Glide i used. My last race it really slid off so i am not sure what happened here. What would you do differently?: I think I need to put the Body Glide over a wider area around my ankles. Bike
Comments: Just a great course, ended with the rain coming down with less than half the bike to go but it wasn't too bad. Legs never felt to bad, util i got off my bike. What would you do differently?: Since i know the course now feel like i could pace myself better next time, go harder. Transition 2
Comments: T2 was going good then i just a had monstrous cramp in my right hamstring just stop me in my tracks. I had plenty of fluid and endurolytes, and it was not hot so i know i was hydrated well. Think it may be more of a training issue, as in i needed more longer rides. Took 3 miles of the run to really loosen my righ leg up. What would you do differently?: More long distance rides. Plus hopefully my new fitted tri bike will help with the cramping on the bike segment. Didn't have it for this race. Run
Comments: Well the aforementioned cramping in T2 really slowed the first 3 miles before i started to loosen the right leg. After that i actually felt pretty good and picked it up a little. Wanted to make the last 3 or 4 miles my fastest, but by mile 9 i just felt like cruising, couldn't get the pace up to 7:40 like i wanted to. Last 2 miles i was very hungry all of a sudden and it really seemed to take forever to make the last 2. Had friends and family meet me out on the course and run me in which was an awesome boost! What would you do differently?: Other than the cramping i would like to have a little more speed for the last few miles. Post race
Warm down: Eat as much food as i could, fast! Tried a little stretching but i didn't really care at that point. What limited your ability to perform faster: Just not enough speedwork? Event comments: Terrific race even in the remnants of a hurricane. The entire course is awesome and our crew is already planning on making this a yearly event. Much cheaper than Steelhead, and closer for many people. If you want to do a Half-Iron you cannot go wrong with this one. And its only going to grow and get better. If it weren't for the rain there was a fun beach party planned that night that would have capped the day off nicely. Highly recommend this race to anyone, especially for Half-Iron athletes as I think they really had the best course of the 3 different lengths. Last updated: 2008-09-17 12:00 AM

The usual, get everybody up, eat an energy bar or some oatmeal, drink some fluids and get to the race.
Got in the water for some light swimming, which was good because it was a little cooler than normal.
