Pre-race routine:

Race was at 9am so I had 2 eggs, english muffin with PB, small OJ and coffee. Got to the event about 7:45, plenty of time to set up. GU 20 minutes before the swim.
Event warmup:

short run, maybe 1/4 mile. Did some stretching.
Swim
  • 11m 53s
  • 440 yards
  • 02m 42s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim was a shore start. Run out into the surf, swim straight out, round buoy, swim back in. Ocean was calm with some waves breaking at the shore. Water was colder than I expected but I warmed up quickly.
Transition 1
  • 02m 14s
Comments:

I was very close to the bike and run exits so it was easy in and out.
Bike
  • 31m 27s
  • 10 miles
  • 19.08 mile/hr
Comments:

The road was pretty bumpy on the way out. There were a few turns to deal with, the first one I almost missed because there was no volunteer there directing traffic, just a police officer directing traffic. It wasn't obvious to me I needed to turn until 2 guys in front of me went straight which prompted the police officer to start pointing us to the right. I just barely made the turn.
What would you do differently?:

Make sure I remember to put that missing screw in my riding shoe. That almost caused me some grief.
Transition 2
  • 01m 38s
Comments:

Got in and out pretty quickly. Took 1 salt tab. Took too much fluids and was a little sloshy on the first part of run. Turned out to be nothing.
Run
  • 29m 2s
  • 3 miles
  • 09m 41s  min/mile
Comments:

This was a fun run on the beach. It was kind of disheartening to be able to see all the way down the beach and how far the turnaround was.
Post race
Warm down:

gatorade, 1 salt tab, and a banana. I felt pretty good today and enjoyed the race.

Event comments:

Overall, it was a pretty well organized race. Lots of volunteers and course was layed out and marked well (aside from that one turn on the bike). I would reccomend and run this race again.
