Swim
Comments: About 20 seconds until the horn blew, my goggle strap popped! I was fumbling trying to get my strap back on the goggles when the horn went off!! Then, my goggles leaked the WHOLE swim. Love salt water in the eye. Otherwise, the swim was great for me. I never got anxious or nervous and kept a good rhythm and speed for me. Next time I will push it a little harder on the swim. This being my first open water swim tri, I didn't want to spend all my energy on the swim. What would you do differently?: Not have goggles break. :( Push a little more next swim! Transition 1
Comments: It took me some time to get the sting out of my eyes from the salt water. But, I got over it. I rinsed off with some bottled water and dried off. I got my helmet, jersey, socks and shoes on with little effort. Did a quick stretch and was off. What would you do differently?: Nothing but work on getting faster! Bike
Comments: I was really pleased with my bike performance. I really pushed it out on the first half because I knew we had a stiff headwind out of the north on the way back. So, I got in my big ring and rode hard! I passed a lot of people and was only passed three times (one of which I re-passed). Once we turned back onto Oleander, that's when we came up into the headwind. I dropped to the little ring and just keep puddling. Still did good, passed a few and wasn't passed! This was the best ride I have had. I did great with my nutrition and hydration on the bike. It really set me up good for the run! What would you do differently?: Just work on getting faster!! Transition 2
Comments: I was feeling really good after the bike and knew I only had the run left!!! I did take a second to stretch my legs because I didn't want to have tight legs in the run. Now, I am glad I did take the little extra time to stretch. Took another sip of water and was on my way. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: I felt really good on the run. Glad I practiced so many bricks. My legs weren't heavy or tired at all! I had a great run. My time really surprised me. I ran about 2-minutes a mile faster than my training runs!! What would you do differently?: Nothing. Post race
Warm down: My husband and family came ran up and gave me a great big huge hug!! Drank my chocolate milk, gathered my stuff in transition, took some pictures and then went and found my Team In Training mates!! I did a little stretching and stayed for some of the awards. Left for the hotel to shower up and then go get some good local grub! What limited your ability to perform faster: This just being my first triathlon season and only have trained for just short of 4 months, I am super happy with my performance. I just have to continue to build my strenght and endurance! Event comments: Set Up Events did a great job!! This was a super race and I will be back next year for sure! I got up about 4:15 to get a wake a litle, have my coffee and make sure I had all my stuff for the race. I ate a bagel with peanut butter and decided to save my banana for a little later in the morning. Then, I went down to the hotel lobby to meet my other Team In Training members. We checked our bikes, pumped up tires and headed to the site. I was still dark, windy and cool. I'm glad I had my sweat suit!
We parked the cars and headed up to get our timing chips, bodymarkings and what not. I was surprised at how not nervous I was at this point. Got transition set up and then we all decided to walk to the swim start as a warm up instead of riding the bus over.
We walked from the transition area to the swim start then did a little stretching. When my wave got called up, I did a few strokes and jumped around in the water a little.
