Run
Comments: I registered for 2:30 which placed me in Coral 14. Once the race started - you could tell EVERYONE was pumped up. The first 3.1 miles were right around my normal pace (10 minute miles),I was doing pretty good. Wasn't out of breath, not too hot, no aches or anything. I pretty much got chills/goosebumps the first 1 mile into it. You just feel really happy and/or fortunate to experience something like that and you automatically start thinking about all the people you knew and loved that may not have ever had a chance to experience it - you basically thank God for the opportunity. Around Mile 5 or 6 I started to feel a blister on the tiny toe develope on each foot - but not too bad. At mile 7 & 8 i slowed down around 11 minutes a mile. By Mile 10 I my quads felt as if I couldn't move them. Like every bit of glucose had been used. I walked Mile 12 and 3/4 of Mile 13 - I sprinted the last 100 yards to the Finish Line. Done - Wheeh. My first Half Marathon. What would you do differently?: Maybe run more than once in two months (August 23rd and September 14th). I figured since i finished the Broad Street Run in 1:36 - I would be able to finish 13 miles in about 2:10. Since I had to account for the final 3 miles I added 20 minutes to my estimate. I was wayyyyyyy off. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: no training. New baby maybe. Event comments: On par with the Broad Street Run. Live music at a number of spots is a great touch. Really can't understand people who HAVE to listen to their own music and wear headphones. That's great when your running out in the boonies - but not for a race like this one. Woke up around 5 AM. Got dressed and ate a bagel with some peanut butter.
My son woke up around 6AM so I got him settled down and I was out the door by 7AM.
By the time I had parked and walked to the staring line it was 7:40AM - no time to warmup.
None. Jogged to the gear truck to drop off my gear bag.
