Pre-race routine:

Eat PB sando at 5:15 back to bed until 6:00, eat fig newtons. Start stretching
Event warmup:

Stretch and nothing else.
Swim
  • 09m 25s
  • 500 yards
  • 01m 53s / 100 yards
Comments:

Felt great on the swim. I over-estimated a lot of other participants abilities based on equipment and positioned myself in the back as it was my first tri. Former swimer...had to pass a lot of folks. Going in the first wave was great. Run to T1 was not good, I got passed twice on the way.
What would you do differently?:

Start out front, run harder to T1.
Transition 1
  • 03m 14s
Comments:

Again, first tri. Did terrible here in T1. Started off with bike and no helmet even. Just bad.
What would you do differently?:

Run harder into T1 to get my blood moving up and down again. No socks on bike. No shirt at all. Weather was bad so I would have liked to have had my gloves on but...
Bike
  • 49m 37s
  • 16.6 miles
  • 20.07 mile/hr
Comments:

When I hit the road it was very wet and quite windy. Took me a good 2-4 miles to get moving and then felt like I was able to get into a rythem. Bike performed well (road set-up w/out aero bars). Headwind really got to me.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure on this one, I can ride faster but the conditions got to me a bit.
Transition 2
  • 01m 41s
Comments:

Super slow here again.
Run
  • 30m 32s
  • 4 miles
  • 07m 38s  min/mile
Comments:

First time running since a little back spasim (sp) about a week earlier. Didn't run with any kind of form and was just looking to finish at this point. Not a great run for me.
What would you do differently?:

Stick to what I'd practiced, run with good form and pace each mile one at a time.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Poor T1 for sure, and not sticking to the game plan on the run.

Event comments:

Just needed some more drink stations on the run, that's all. Great event and lots of fun.
