Pre-race routine:

Set up Transistion area. Put on wetsuit,
Event warmup:

swam a few yards to get used to the water. and got ready. didn't stretch, don't think that would have helped
Swim
  • 09m 27s
  • 437 yards
  • 02m 10s / 100 yards
Comments:

need to find a gym with a pool. start training for the swim portion. sucked in a lot of water.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Transition 1
  • 04m 33s
Comments:

a little difficulty taking suit off. first time removing it under race conditions. should practice that in some bricks for next season.
What would you do differently?:

practice T1 transistions
Bike
  • 53m 19s
  • 14.8 miles
  • 16.66 mile/hr
Comments:

have to get on bike more. practice changing gears BEFORE hills. have to get bike looked at. bike wouldn't change gears when I needed it to. need shoes and clipless peddles. sneakers would fly off on some hills
What would you do differently?:

change my nutrition on the bike. had a gu at the 30 min mark overall. then had another with about 1 1/2 left on the bike. need more fluids than solids
Transition 2
  • 01m 18s
Comments:

wore my running sneakers on the bike. so had no transition time for that.
What would you do differently?:

very smooth transition. wouldn't change anything.
Run
  • 29m 49s
  • 3.2 miles
  • 09m 19s  min/mile
Comments:

had that gu on the bike too late. sat in my stomach and had some GI issues again. I did the same thing at Timberman. I did not bring a gu with me on the run.
What would you do differently?:

Need to figure out better hydration on the run. only two aid stations. one at the beginning, and another at the half way point. more fluids than solids. have to practice running longer than race distance, and more hilly courses.
Post race
Warm down:

stopped at the end and caught my breath. walked off the gi issues, and grabbed a gatorade and a water. then kissed my wife and cheered on my cousin's husband and thier son. ate a banana, bagel, and yogurt.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

not sure. might be mental, need to do more brick workouts. train with nutrition in mind.

Event comments:

Seemed to be less organized than last years event. Post-Race food was a little too greasy for my liking. Eggs, potatoes, bacon and sausage. lots of fruit, bagels, yogurt.
