Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 2:50am, alarm was set for 3, but I was ready. Went down and had some generic Lucky Charms and talked with the hotel security guard. Went back to room, got dressed and met Dave to walk to the transition area. Got bike ready and we walked to the swim start and lined up.
Event warmup:

The walk to the swim start was the warm up.
Swim
  • 1h 13m 38s
  • 4224 yards
  • 01m 44s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim went pretty easy. I swim a little wide to avoid the others and had open water pretty much the whole way. Stayed very relaxed and put up the time I hoped for. I would say I swam at about 70% which worked well.
What would you do differently?:

nothing, it was a perfect swim for me. decent time, and din't use much energy.
Transition 1
  • 05m 48s
Comments:

Transition went well. Felt pretty relaxed and just kept a controlled mind.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Bike
  • 5h 39m 44s
  • 112 miles
  • 19.78 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike felt great. No issues. I heard after the race there were tacks thrown onto the road, but I got lucky and didn't hit any I am aware of. All in all, it was a great ride. My mind was pretty clam and it just flew by.
What would you do differently?:

Being that the whole event ended up feeling nowhere near as hard as I thought is would, I could have probably ridden a bit harder, but they may have had serious negative results, so I am very happy with how I rode. I did have to pee starting about 30 miles in, but I didn't want to ruin my bike split and since I was wearing socks, I didn't want to just go and risk a blister on the run.
Transition 2
  • 06m 52s
Comments:

Didn't have to rack own bike, that was nice. Changed pretty quickly and finally got to go pee. Seemed like it wouldn't stop, but a good transition overall. Felt fresh and ready to run.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 4h 08m 22s
  • 26.2 miles
  • 09m 29s  min/mile
Comments:

Good course, had to go to the bathroom 4 times so I lost 12 minutes. Despite that, it felt like a fairly good run. I would run station to station and walk while I drank, then start again. Worked very well. Felt no need to walk at any time during the run.
What would you do differently?:

Wish I didn't need to use the bathroom as that limited me from running a sub 4 hour marathon, but it worked out fine.
Post race
Warm down:

Got a massage and walked back to the hotel.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

If there was any one limiter, it would be my respect for the distance. I now know I could have gone harder ont he bike and put up a sub 11 hour time, but I am still thrilled. I basically had no issues all day so what else can you ask for?

Event comments:

I wish there was more food to choose from after the race, but it was still okay. The volunteers made this day a truly special one for me. I really admire all they do to make it easier for us. I have never ever seen a race so well organized and staffed with friendly, helpful people. I will be back.
