Swim
Comments: Swim was canceled due to safety issues. They would have been unable to get safety boats and kayaks out there. It was about 3ft swells, but I also think they thought it would get worse as the day went on. Never seemed to be as bad as other races I've done or ever get any worse, but they have to thing about everyone, including the people who shouldn't toe the line at St A's because they frankly just can't swim. Transition 1
Comments: This will probably go down as the fast T1 ever at St A's for me. It was a time trial start at the swim exit mat and we went in numerical order every 2 sec. This was stupid because this put everyone on my rack in the same place at the same time. Had my helmet on for the run into T1. Had GU's and Tylenol in my back pocket. Just grabbed the bike and ran. Passed several people who had shoes on and were running through T1. What would you do differently?: Nothing Bike
Comments: Wanted to really hammer the bike and go sub 1:08. It was extremely windy on the day. Had a nice tailwind on the way out towards Tropical Field and a headwind on the way back. The rest of the bike has so many turns you are either in a headwind, tailwind or crosswind. Was pedalling hard and kept a good cadence. Was keeping speed above 21 most of the time and mostly above 22. Handled the corners really well and was passing people like crazy. Especially once I caught up to the charity and PC division. Thought I was going to get my first ever penalty for failure to pass or whatever they call it. Was in someones draft and coming up behind them. Moved out to pass and had the headwind hit me right in the race. I finally pulled up next to him and we were coming up to a corner so everyone was slowing a bit. Looked to my left and saw the offical. Thought he was writing me up, but apparently not. Hit the corner and accelerated to get out of dodge. The course was way crowded and the officals were flaging people like crazy. Coming into T2 I was set for my flying dismount. Some jackass in front of me did his dismount, but came to a complete stop. I rear ended him and lost a shoe off my bike. Had to go back and grab that so I lost a few seconds there. What would you do differently?: Nothing Transition 2
Comments: Besides the jackass at the enterance to T2, everything was good. Lost control of my bike once when I hit the sidewalk and a hole. Had a little trouble with my shoes as they had so much dirt on them from MIT I had to rinse them off and they were a little stiff. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Hope for more room coming into T2. Run
Comments: Started out and felt kind of sluggish, but hit mile 1 at 7:11. Figured the mile marker was wrong. Was running pretty good, but didn't feel like it was great. As I was crossing the one bridge on the course my chip strap was killing my leg. I had to make the decision to stop and fix it or suck it up. Decision was stop and fix it. Probably cost me 10 seconds at most. I've also been having knee problems and I was waiting for it to start hurting. It never really did. It started to tighten up around mile 3 so I took 2 more tylenol. Was still tight but I was running well. Keep thinking that at some point the mile markers would catch up and my time would be more of what I expected. Was talking to a couple people on the course and everyone thought it was pretty accurate. What would you do differently?: Nothing, this was a fantastic run for me. Maybe not be hurting so I could train more. Post race
Warm down: Got a cold towel, water and went to watch some other TriGators finish. What limited your ability to perform faster: Nothing. I set a PR for the Olympic distance on the bike and a PR for the Olympic or stand alone 10k. So I can't complain about that at all. Event comments: I was dissapointed that the swim was cancelled. I missed qualifying for AG Nationals by 34 seconds. Even if I had put in my worst Oly swim ever I would have still been sub 2:30 and over the past 5 years that would qualify me for Nationals every year. Last updated: 2008-09-28 12:00 AM

Got up at 4:00 and ate a muffin/banana and had my multivitamin. Packed and headed to the race site about 4:45. Had pre body marked so we passed everyone in line.
Nothing as I was demotivated once I heard the swim was canceled.
