Run
Comments: I started right between the 6 min mile people and the 7 minute mile people. i did my best to pace along with the people slightly ahead of me. the first mile was quick, but not "TOO" fast, so I was happy with it. I started having a bit of a congestion/coughing problem etc... but nothing horrible. My HR was high, but I felt ok, and just told myself "its 3.1 miles.. fight". Mile 1 to 2.5 was the toughest as it was straight north into a headwind. I feel like I am at a speed right now where I am running alone in No Mans land.. I am too slow for the front group, and just fast enough to be ahead of the pack. I got to the last.6 miles and was able to turn the screw a little bit. My PR before this in an Open 5k was 21:50 and that was last november. altho i had run a 21:08 at the end of the Manitowoc Sprint Tri in August. My expectation was to go sub 21... I finished and stopped my watch at 20:24!!! woo hooo new PR What would you do differently?: I am not sure what I would do differently... I was pretty spent. I am happy with the PR, and I am going to see if I can go sub 20 mins on November 9th at the Jingle Bell Run.... good times Post race
Warm down: my warm down was basically a Walk back to my car from the finish... I give kudos to the organizers for having a great amount of food and drink, and they had great booths and info on breast cancer awareness and research. I will definitely do the run again next year. What limited your ability to perform faster: I think that I woulda have been closer to sub 20 without the head wind, but then again, who knows. I have never gone that fast before, so I really have no clue! Event comments: As far as 5ks go, this race is accurate in distance, very well run. They set it up nicely for the racers giving them a bit of a head start. I had a good time.... And you cannot beat doing a race where the proceeds go to a good cause. Last updated: 2008-09-29 12:00 AM

pre race routine....................
well, i don't really have one... I woke up and decided "yeah, i think i will do the 5k..." got dressed, and headed down to the start area. I registered, (and screwed that up, as it was apparently an extra 5$ for the "official" timing chip,... since they had already run my card I just said forget it.. I decided to run with the timed group, and just keep my own time and not get an official time... kinda annoyed but oh well.
I went for about a 1 mile warmup jog, kept it light, noticed right away that my calves were tight, and they just didnt seem to want to loosen up.
odd.
