Age Group Rank = 27/33
Pre-race routine:

Had the 99 cent breakfast special at the Hacienda Resort and Casino, 2 eggs, bacon, toast and hash browns
Swim
  • 32m 41s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 59s / 100 yards
Comments:

By far (1000+) yards my longest open water swim in a race to date
What would you do differently?:

Since I broke the 2:00 per 100 barrier, not a damn thing.
Transition 1
  • 05m 38s
Comments:

Transition was on a rough asphalt road and was uphill at least 100 yards to my bike.
What would you do differently?:

Put my chip under my wetsuit so I could get the suit off a little faster.
Bike
  • 1h 45m 14s
  • 24.95 miles
  • 14.22 mile/hr
Comments:

Ok, I now know the reason the tri is called Pumpkinman, It's because (apparently) The Climb from Hell, Hells Hills, and This Ride Sucks was already taken
This is just a brutal bike course, a 6 mile sustained climb is NOT what the doctor ordered.
What would you do differently?:

The Sprint distance next time
Transition 2
  • 04m 26s
Comments:

Ok, here is where a decent race fell apart. I went to tug my Yanks! tight and pulled the lace right off. Both sides snapped in half. As the laces are elastic they proceeded to unlace themselves and I was finally able to stop this process about halfway down my shoe. So I had 6.2 miles to run on a half laced right shoe
What would you do differently?:

Not break my laces?
Run
  • 1h 09m 41s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 11m 13s  min/mile
Comments:

The race sucked, I started out with fairly solid legs and was looking forward to a decent run, but the broken lace quickly caused hot spots that were more or less unbearable, I'd have to stop and walk until the foot cooled off and then would run again. I finished, but not the way I wanted to.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

BIG HILLS on the bike, broken lace on the run

Event comments:

If anyone tells you to do the Olympic at Pumpkinman, walk away slowly because they really aren't right mentally. The cool was actually seeing Chris "Macca" McCormick in my race. Yeah he was probably showered and on a plane home by the time I finished, but cool none the less.
