Pre-race routine:

Got up, had a bowl of Fiber...gotta love that stuff and a banana. Had to make the morning pit stop. Deann, who I ran with had to make about 6 before the race.
Event warmup:

Walked around, gave Brendon (hubby) a kiss for good luck. He is much faster than I and PR'ed himself today. It was an emotional morning, but one that I wouldn't change for the world.

Comments:

The run started out well. Shot out too fast as usual. About 9 minute miles. That is too fast for me, ran to mile 3 at that pace. Deann had to pee again, so a stop at the porta potty...she is fast in there! Started back out...about the same pace. This is what started my thought of PR'ing today...wasn't planning on it, just wanted to finish actually. Saw a woman with a big pink ribbon on the back of her shirt. Didn't pay much attention to her until later...will get back to that in a bit.

Run was going well, still faster than I would like it to be. I am about a 10 minute miler. We actually got in a groove and played the game that we always play during a race...the marry, have sex with, and kill game...sounds horrible, but you pick 3 people and the other person has to say what they would choose to do with that person. Yes, strange, but, it really passes the time and this is all fictional so no harm done.

We ran without stopping until mile 8, then said, let's run a mile walk 30 seconds...worked well...fast forward 2 miles to mile 10...see the lady with the pink ribbon shirt on again...(I was diagnosed with breast cancer on 9/22/08 and am having a bilateral mastectomy on 10/21/08, yes Tuesday). She was not a pleasant sight at that moment for me. I said to Deann, if I have to look at that d#*m pink ribbon for one more mile, I will scream...came upon her and said I wam beating that pink ribbon to her and passed her by. A bit later, she comes up behind me and said "The pink ribbon lady is back!". I promptly told her that she was not going to beat me and to stay back. I think I scared her a bit, so I told her that I was having surgery in 2 days and that I did not want to think about it for just 2 hours. She then said she would support me for the rest of the race. Deann and I talked with her for a few minutes, then turned the corner for the finish line, we said see ya to pink ribbon lady and ran as fast as wel could into the finish line. It was awesome...broke down at that minute, but really felt fantastic about what I had accomplished that morning. And it was Deann's birthday, so a great way to celebrate.

I will kick cancer's AZZ!!! May be a bumpy road, but I will do it, just like I beat it today!

What would you do differently?:

Absolutely nothing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Post race
