This was my first "running only" race .......and the furthest distance I have ever run.
Event warmup:

Woke up later than I wanted at 5am and grabbed some granola cereal with a bottle of gatorade. Drove up to the race and parked at the Middle School. Walked up to the start and picked up my number then walked back to my car. It wasn't too cold so I ditched my jacket, hat and running gloves. Walked back to the start and waited for about 20 min or so.

Comments:

I registered in the 30-34 age group, but they have me listed as 28 yrs old. Not sure why because my registration shows my age (33). So the above rank is adjusted for the 30-34 agegroup.

This was a great experience for my first road race. I wasn't sure how I would do since this was 2 miles longer than my 11 miler from last year. My long runs were 9 and 10 miles in the weeks leading up to the event. I ran my race plan which was to keep my HR under 170 for the first half and start slow. Then pick it up a bit until mile 10, where I wanted to push it if I could. I started to get really hungry at about mile 9 which happened during my long run at Tugaloo State Park. Almost felt sick.....but water helped.

Executed this race according to my plan (see pace per mile data above).
What would you do differently?:

Well, since I only started training for this distance 4 weeks before the event I suppose my training could have been a bit more extensive. This was kind of a "drop in" race even though a half mary was on my 2008 goals list. My aerobic base carried me through this one....but very pleased overall. Very enjoyable run.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked for about 10 minutes then grabbed water, my shirt, a couple of energy bars, a banana and headed for the car.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Proper training schedule.

Event comments:

Flat and fast course which made it great for my first run-only race at this distance. Plenty of water stops and great volunteers. Compared to the triathlons I have competed-in, the postrace activities were on par. Nice event.
