Pre-race routine:

We camped at Lake Sonoma, so got up at 4:45 and had a bagel, banana, and coffee. Drove to the finish line to catch a bus to the start.

Comments:

I had been battling a cold the previous week, but felt okay at the start. Ran the first 2 miles very conservatively (7:43 & 8:00), then fell into a good groove of ~7:30/mile. Still had quite a bit left at the end of the race, so could have pushed it a bit more. Still, this was a "fast training run" for me in preparation for the CIM marathon in December.

I paced a 50 year old buddy of mine who was running his first half marathon. He finished in 1:39:36 and took 3rd in his age group... not too shabby! I ended up 7 seconds out of a podium finish. Next year!
What would you do differently?:

Not much. Perhaps push a little more in the beginning, but I was happy with the effort.

Warm down:

Ate, walked, stretched, wine tasted, and then head back to SF.

Event comments:

Very nice inaugural event. Hope to make this a yearly outing.
