Pre-race routine:

Interesting race for me. I hadn't been training much and am still trying to recover from my calf issues. Top it all of, I left both my stopwatch and Garmin at work so I was going to have no idea what my pace/times were. Other than that, I didn't really do anything for this race but just show up.
Event warmup:

The usual: jog a bit while listening to iPod, then take off iPod and head to start line.
Run
  • 55m 12s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

I basically ran off what I thought was my RPE. To be honest, I thought I was running faster than my end time. Shows what I know ...
What would you do differently?:

All things considered, not much as this was nothing more than a C race for me. In fact, I only did it because its located next town over from my hometown and I've got a streak going of doing this race. If this were an A or B race, I'd probably do all those "race" things like train, taper, etc.
Post race
Warm down:

Again, not much: take off timing chip, grab some bananas, OJ, water & a mini-muffin, take off wet clothes, hop in truck and head home. I didn't see the need to hang around for the door prizes and awards ceremony.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training and pesky minor injuries. I'm way too out of shape to run fast. And I think I do better if I've got my watch on because then the whole time I'm calculating splits, paces, etc., and it seems to keep my mind preoccupied. I'm not very good at knowing how to push myself. Boo!

Event comments:

If what you want is to run a low-key 10k, this is your race. Not much schwag or bells & whistles. They didn't even have a lead car, just some kid on a bike. Police were at most intersections. The last 1/4 mile or so is on dirt road. So if you want to be pampered, go somewhere else. If you want to run/race, come here.

God willing, I'll be back next year.
