Swim
Comments: Overall, I felt really, really comfortable in the swim - major accomplishment!! I didn't see it coming, but I got my goggles kicked off my face, and I didn't panic - just took my time and put them back on and kept swimming. First corner buoy was a little crowded and bunch of us were kind of bouncing off each other around it, but after that, it was pretty much smooth sailing. What would you do differently?: Push it a little harder coming down the back stretch. Transition 1
Comments: I feel that I had a pretty quick T1, but there was apparently something wrong with the timing mats so it wasn't recorded. I passed A LOT of people running out of T1 and jumping on my bike barefoot. Bike
Comments: This was a little slower than I was hoping (even assuming my T1 was the same as last year) - I wonder if I rode too hard during the week. The only time the wet roads bothered me was on the downhill before the Tridelphia Lake dam. I had to brake a couple times and almost picked up too much speed for the last bend to the right - I heard someone didn't make the turn and ended up in the woods across the street. I had a little bit more trouble with the hills than I was anticipating - they are bigger/longer than I remembered. What would you do differently?: Try to get some more hill training in and pre-ride the course. Transition 2
Comments: My rack area was in about the farthest spot from the bike-in/run-out areas. I didn't feel like I wasted much time, but I need to figure out how to shorten T2. My feet were pretty numb. Run
Comments: My run went pretty much as planned, I'm just slower than I want to be! :) I walked the tops of most hills and took a salt tablet at every other water stop. I never felt like I was about to cramp this year (like I have always felt before). I was able to finish up with a kick this year! What would you do differently?: Same as the bike: train more on hills. Perhaps work in some intervals to bring my speed up. I intended to get a couple more bricks in, but that didn't happen. Post race
Warm down: None. What limited your ability to perform faster: Didn't push hard in the swim. Roads were a little slick on the bike. Lack of ability on the run. Event comments: This is the best I've felt after a race in a while. I really enjoy the hills, I just need to practice on them more! Last updated: 2008-10-05 12:00 AM

Slept thru my alarm so we didn't make it to the park until 5:15 (and I didn't finish my traditional pre-race coffee, which usually helps produce my pre-race BM #1 at the house).
Meandered around the transition area for a while and was bummed that only one racer didn't show up on my rack - it was full! My brother-in-law's rack only had four bikes.
My pre-race meal included an Ensure drink, one bananna, two cups of coffee, a salt tablet, and four ibuprofin.
Short jog up the first hill of the run course.
