Swim
Comments: A great swim for me! This was a HIM swim PR. I was able to draft pretty well and despite having tinted goggles in the dark, my sighting was good. What would you do differently?: More swim training as usual. Transition 1
Comments: A little slow in T1, that's what I get for not racing as much this year or practicing transitions. A little trouble with my suit, but all in all it was a good T1 What would you do differently?: Practice practice practice Bike
Comments: I pushed it on the bike. I felt awesome on the first loop and though today would be my day to break 5 hours. About 10 miles into the second loop I started to let my pace drop and began to feel the results of my undertraining. I also feel I drank too much (3 bottles) because I had to urinate twice. The rain didn't effect me too much, it wasn't coming down too hard while I was on the bike. My toe covers and arm warmers were key! What would you do differently?: Better nutrition plan and ride more than 75 miles the entire month before the race! Transition 2
Comments: Pretty solid T2, I dropped a few things and had to reach down a few times to get them. I ended up dropping my Endurolytes as I exit the transition area What would you do differently?: More focus, and practice practice practice Run
Comments: CRAPPY RUN! I blew up, plain and simple. Losing my Endurolytes cost me and my lack of run mileage was obvious by mile 8. I had a great first loop and was still on pace to break 5 hours, but then the wheels came off. Coming into mile 8 my legs started to cramp and mentally I was losing it. I fought as long as I could but was forced to walk some hills. At mile 12 I had to stop and urinate, which as never happened to my on the run portion before. I started to cramp very badly in my hamstrings coming into the last .75 and in an attempt to out kick someone in the chute my legs locked up and i was in serious pain coming acroess the line. What would you do differently?: Train better, and fuel better Post race
Warm down: Got into the tent and put on some dry clothes and eat the post race food. Attempted to stretch and walk, but my legs were shot. Hobbled back towards the hotel and ended up getting a ride from a friend. Took a hot shower which really helped, then ate some real food What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training from September 1st to race day. Poor nutrition and lack of a formal nutrition plan. Event comments: I was a little skeptical about the race when I saw the bike course and heard that all of it was open to traffice. I'm happy to say that I was pleasantly surprised and would most certainly go back next year. They could use some more bottle exchanges on the bike, especially if it were a warm day. Maybe it's just me being spoiled by others races or not wanting to carry so many bottles on my bike. Last updated: 2008-10-06 12:00 AM

Up at 5am, got dressed and rode my bike to transition. I ate a PB sandwich on the ride and a banana while setting up.
Not much, a few strokes in the lake to get water in the wetsuit and check the seal on my goggles
