![]() Swim
Comments: The tread water start was interesting, but gave us all a chance to space out a little bit before we started the swim. It was nuts when the horn sounded for us to go. The water was so murky, I could barely see my hands (not to mention the people in front of or beside me). After we rounded the second bouy, I realized there was a LOT more open water and less people around me so I actually swam freestyle and just went for it, I think I made up some great time on that last stretch. What would you do differently?: Just go for it right off the bat. I spent the first 350 meters or so on and off of breast stroke just trying to figure out what was going on in all the chaos. Now that I have a better feel for it, I can just swim and not worry so much about what was happening around me. Also, Need to figure out how to prevent my goggles from fogging up, I could see the dock at the finish so I was swimming blindly towards the end. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: I was really happy with this transition. It was my first one ever and I didn't really know what to do. My mom was standing beside the fence near my rack so that was really helpful. I started to get on my bike and then remembered the mount/dismount line. Luckily I remembered really quickly! Shoved pieces of my Clif bar in my mouth as I was running to the line with my bike. What would you do differently?: Get tri shorts I can wear under my wetsuit. Putting my cycling shorts on when I was wet was really challenging. I lost a LOT of time that way. ![]() Bike
Comments: Great Ride! A ton of fun, I felt really strong the entire time, and it was gorgeous out there. What would you do differently?: I need to get better balance on the bike so that I can drink water without sacrificing my speed. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: I was so wobbly running after I got off the bike, I had to go slow because I was afraid I would fall over. No problem getting my bike on the rack and slipped my cycle shoes right off. I didn't think I was slow getting my socks and running shoes on, but the video footage and my time prove otherwise. I also lost a few seconds when I started to run the wrong way out of the transition area (luckily Chuck caught it all on camera so I can watch the video and laugh at myself)! What would you do differently?: Drink more on the bike, I lost time on my transition trying to take on more fluids. Perhaps some quick tie laces as well. ![]() Run
Comments: It was hard getting my stride at the start of the run. I still felt strong, but it took me almost halfway through to really lengthen my stride. Nice strong finish, felt great! What would you do differently?: Just keep training, overall, I was really happy with my run! ![]() Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: I'm really happy with my performance on my first Tri. Chuck got my transitions and all of my starts/finishes with the video camera, I have been reviewing the footage for areas to fix, and can happily say I don't see too many! I noted a couple places where I know I could improve: spent too much time spotting during the first leg of the swim, clothing issues at first transition, and proper hydration throughout. Event comments: Great Race! An awesome first triathlon for me, I'm hooked and can't wait to come back to the course next year! Last updated: 2008-10-06 12:00 AM

Ate a half a raisin bagel and half a plain bagel on the way to the race, plus some Gatorade AM and a bottle of water.
Got to the race early (which was great for me). I was so focused on the upcoming race though, I forgot my age and ran around with 27 on my leg instead of 28. Mom, Chuck and I had several hours to hang around, talk to people, figure out how to set up my transitions properly and get familiar with the course layout. I felt really relaxed and ready to go!
