Swim
Comments: Did not feel especially fast during warmup and was beginning to question moving up from 5:00 to 4:15 the day before the race. The girl in fron to me said she was hoping to go around 4:00 so I figured she was either lying or I would never catch her. Caught her by the 2nd wall so figured I was doing okay. I was able to pass a few people during the swim and was only passed 1 time I believe. Thought my time was faster than 5:12 but I did take it a little easier than last week. What would you do differently?: Make it to more masters clasess, but with a new baby that would have been tough. Swim harder, I realy think I had more in me. Transition 1
Comments: 38th overall 2nd in AG. Not too bad really considering I took my time running to my bike. Put on sun glasses and they fogged up so I opted to leave them behind. What would you do differently?: Run faster after swim. Decide on glass situation before race. Bike
Comments: My first 3 times on this course were all on my $300 road bike and the first time I road with cages and my running shoes. This time I had my tri bike with clipless pedals and brand new wheels. Not great wheels but alot better than I previous wheelset so I was hoping for a much better time. Took my time leaving T1 and got into my shoes much better than last week. 1st loop I passed more people than in previous races since DSU started their beginning program clients first. Trading places with a guy on a Cervelo with Zipps most of the first lap but let him go on the second so I didn't burn out. I knew what time I wanted and tried to stay close to that speed. Rode the hills much better this year but tired to not take them too agressively. By the second lap it was a constant "on your left". What would you do differently?: Maybe push a little harder and do more intervals and short rides in training. I have been doing longer rides at a constant pace basically but have done a few shorter faster rides. Transition 2
Comments: 19th overall, 1st AG What would you do differently?: Not much really. Just like T1 I did not run full out off my bike. I wanted to get my legs under me so I would have a decent run. Run
Comments: This run hurt much more than last week. I started off sub 7' the first .5 miles or so and dialed it back some so as not to burn out. Just took it pretty easy from that point on. I saw the leaders coming back and they were running like they were doing wind sprint and had just started, it wsa very impressive. I know I am not that fast but to lose by 10' in a race that short just seems unreal and make me wonder how I could ever get near that fast. I just did not feel fast although I probably could have pushed harder to go sun 23'. Realistically I am only 30" off my Tri 5K PR but after running the 1st 5K at playtri oly in 22:30 in April my other races have been disappointing this year. What would you do differently?: Push harder. Post race
Warm down: Just hung out with the family and walked around. What limited your ability to perform faster: Genetics. Event comments: I have raced this course 4 times now. 3 for the monster and 1 St Patty. I have improved overall everytime. Monster 06 St. Patty 07 Monster 07 Monster 08 Swim 8:10 6:24 5:32 5:12 T1 2:12 1:57 1:26 :52 Bike 37:17 37:45 37:02 35:52 T2 1:18 1:58 :51 :40 Run 24:20 24:01 22:45 23:17 Total 1:13:15 1:12:11 1:07:35 1:05:51 They definately brought in more people this year and much faster people. Last year I was 17th out of 230 and the year before 80th out of 280. They more than doubled the number of participates this year. I would have been around 10th last year with my time. It is all relative though but still had fun. If all goes as planned this will be my last year doing this race as I want to move my family back north next year. Might try to do St. Patty's in '09. Woke up before the family and feed the baby and had a ham, egg and cheese croissant. Woke up the family and loaded the car for the ride to Keller. Ate half a peanut butter bagel on the way.
Swam 300 meters and that was about it. Since the family came I tried to hang out with them as much as possible so they didn't get bored.
