Pre-race routine:

Slept at my brother's in the South End so I could sleep a bit later and walk to the race. I was also able to watch the sox lose (why is Timlin on the playoff roster?) and go to bed way too late (at 12:30 or so). Oh, and have a couple beers which wasn't in the plan. Hammered a bunch of water throughout the game though.
Event warmup:

Woke up at 6 and out the door around 6:30. About a half hour walk to the race which was a nice way to warm up. Piece of toast on the walk. Gel about 15 minutes before the gun with a few cups of water.

Comments:

Everything went to plan and a bit better. I was hoping to do the first 6-7 miles at an 8:30 pace, the next 3 at 8:15, and the last three as fast as possible. I wanted to average better than 8:15 for the whole race. I jumped down into the 7's earlier than I planned but I felt good and the last two miles were an awesome kick that hurt (but hurt so good). Even though the first mile was so slow because it was full of people I was still (barely) in the 7's! Ate my GU at about mile 7-8 and had a small gulp of water at each stop. If I train correctly I should be able to go sub 4:00 at Boston in April.
What would you do differently?:

Just be better trained and go out slightly faster.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around with Greg and his wife. They really helped me push those middle miles. Said goodbye and went to stretch and wait for Jill to finish. She beat 2:00 for the first time and was psyched. Met her friend Renee who may do Boston with us. I didn't end up seeing Caitlin but I'm sure she did great.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not enough training. But, I'm happy with this time being my first half.

Event comments:

Great race. Maybe some better pre and post race activities. But, overall very nice race.
