Pre-race routine:

Got up at 5:00 had a GU, took a shower, at a power bar & sipped on some Cytosport. Left Atlanta, got a Coffee on the way and made it up there around 6:15. Had to park in the far away lot.
Event warmup:

Walked to the race. Set up transition. Ran around for about 10 minutes to get a sweet going. Stretched out & looked over transition going through in my mind the order I'd do in T1/T2. Headed down to the swim. The water was warm. Swam 200 or so yards to warm up the arms & get my breathing down.

This was my second tri, so I was a lot less nervous and had a much better idea of what's going on.
Swim
  • 08m 8s
  • 400 yards
  • 02m / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim was good. I was in the first wave. Got up towards the front. The whistle went off and so did the pack. There was some kicking and jocking for position, but none to bad as I was out in the front. Not many people passed me. Navigation was good, swam straight and swam with good time. Probably could've swam a tad bit harder.

I was out of the water in 6:37. I was pacing to go around 1:40/100m...probably could've pushed it more.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. Push a little harder.
Transition 1
  • 02m 7s
Comments:

Uneventful. Socks/shoes on, sunglasses on, helmet on & off.
What would you do differently?:

Learn to mount bike with shoes already clipped in. Goal for over the winter.
Bike
  • 37m 34s
  • 13 miles
  • 20.76 mile/hr
Comments:

Rode hard. Hills weren't too bad. I was one of the first 10 or so out of the water so there was nothing but open road. Was passed by one or two people.
What would you do differently?:

Keep training and get faster on the bike.
Transition 2
  • 00m 6s
Comments:

Good transition. Shoes off quick & running shoes on. Yanks are key.
Run
  • 26m 12s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 25s  min/mile
Comments:

Arg. I was hoping to run sub-8min/miles. Didn't happen. Weakest part of my race by far. The legs just didn't want to go. I can do a 5K in the low 7min/mile range. I was hoping to hold 8 min here.
What would you do differently?:

Keep training. More bricks over the winter to get the legs use to running off the bike.
Post race
Warm down:

Got some water/Gatorade and a banana. Strained my hamstring a little, so got it stretched out by the sports medicine team that was there.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Brick training. A better run around 21 mins would've put me in the top 3 in my AG. I'll get it next year.

Event comments:

Post race was really good. Lots of people still around, probably b/c they wouldn't let you back in transition. The massage/sports medicine groups giving free post race massages/stretch outs were nice. It was a good race. The hill after the swim was brutal. I'll be back next year.
