Comments:

Perfect weather--50 to 55 and overcast. Kept this steady, aiming not to cramp. Succeeded until mile 25.5, then had to pull back a little to keep from locking up. 8-minute PR, and felt aerobically very strong.

Event comments:

Pretty well run, and the first 6 miles (the Strip, Downtown) are fun. But the rest of the course is awful. Some pretty sketchy neighborhoods (think "Cops"), tons of bad road construction, deserted streets, silent runners and empty sidewalks. This makes for a great marathon weekend--I mean, it's Vegas--but most of the marathon course is grim at best. Do this race if you want to come play in Las Vegas afterwards and to see the city briefly taken over by runners. But if you are a first-timer or like inspiration out on the course, find another race.
