Swim
Comments: Some people mentioned the swim seemed short and looking at my actual swim time I might agree. However, I don't this race would set up a short swim so I put my time down to just having the race of my life. My watch time was 34.51. Transition 1
Comments: Considering I had to load up my jersey and the size of the transition I was pleased with my time. Spent time cleaning my feet, which were very dirty running through the dirt of transition. That's what no rain will do to an area. Bike
Comments: Felt good on the bike but lack of time in the saddle meant parts of me were ready to start running. I can't believe how comfortable I felt on the bike compared to two weeks earlier. Computer time riding 2:54:18. Went through about 3 gels and a bottle of Accelerade 2x strength. New water system worked great, finished most of the 40oz, probably 35 or so. No need to get a bottle during the race. What would you do differently?: More time in the saddle. Transition 2
Comments: I decided to run in my shoes to keep my feet clean. Still, this was slower then expected, of course, I wasn't rushing. Run
Comments: Started a little slow and slowed even more. This was one race I thought I was initially going faster then I was. Usually, I feel slow and am surprised by the first split or two. However, I cannot complain, I ran 99% of the course, walked 1/2 way up Quadzilla on the second lap which allowed me to catch about half the people who passed me running at the bottom. I knew I could not run it all the second time and I'm glad I did not. No aches or pains which is awesome!! Ice cold water towels are now my favorite thing, better then sponges. Went through a few gels and water, did not really want any more sports drink. Couple of endurolytes each lap. Tried pretzels-big mistake. Poured alot of water on me though, gallons, took every sponge I could-2-3 at a time but the towel was the best and lasted the longest. Post race
Warm down: I was beat and it hit me 5 sec after crossing the line. It was if my mind and body said,"WTF did you just do? Let's go collapse somewhere." But within a few minutes I felt better and got some food. I had to keep moving initially because if I sat down I think I would have passed out. I did not hug my wife initially because I was afraid to stop moving. Event comments: What a way to end a mediocre season. I love my new bike and now feel justified in having bought it. I also finally feel like a triathlete and not just someone who dabbles in it. Last updated: 2008-10-19 12:00 AM
